I voraciously devoured my California Roll and then curiously turned my attention to the Sushi and Sashimi dinner Anne was slowly eating. "Anne" noticed I had quickly eaten my share and asked me if I would like to sample a morsel, I tentatively nodded that I would like to try some of hers. So, she instructed me to close my eyes and open my mouth and I complied. After several seconds Anne gently laid a sample on my tongue and with a subtle giggle in her voice she said, "Now chew." I closed my mouth, opened my eyes and began to slowly and cautiously chew my precious gift. The first taste was that of soy sauce and then the familiar taste of sushi rice which quickly gave way to the clean, buttery, silky and delicate flavor of the fish. I beckoned for the waiter and ordered a Sushi and Sashimi dinner to which when it finally arrived I delightfully explored my dish like I would imagine one would explore the Playboy Mansion and so my love for sushi was born. Even though our romance was not lasting, my love for sushi is lasting and that experience had not only opened my eyes to Japanese cuisine, I became open to many other exotic cuisines and what I could not find in DFW, I learned to prepare and thus a love for cooking was born and though I do not know what eventually became of "Anne" I will ever be appreciative to her for opening my eyes to the delights of sushi eating.
