Sup folks
2014 has been a right rollercoaster so far. Long story short, I'm back at work, due back in Uni on Wednesday.
being back East has it's benefits. I've been reunited with my gorgeous boy Harvey.
Also means I've had a nice weekend of catching up with folks. Me and my best friend Coley met up for drinks on the Friday. Spent hours in the pub mocking all the people around us we went to school with (who are still drinking in the same bar, every weekend, and have been for the last 5 years). Good night all round. This snap was taken when the two of us were about 14. Good friends do stick around.
Saturday brought me a great day with my lads from the old days. I don't see these guys much anymore, but we grew up tgether, and can't seem to et rid of each other. They took me down the pub for pool, and to an asian kitchen for gyoza, katsu kare and sake, which was awesome. The overly keen desert chef was a bit too flirty for my tastes, and gave my sweet a happy face. Turns out we went to school with her and I ignored her for years. Oops.
(Also, SG can fuck off randomly rotating my pictures.)
SO yes, I'm back to work. More boat-y shit as always. Currently doing a quick pram dinghy build for the apprentices at the project to mass produce from. The offsets they gave me weren't right at all, so there's been a lot of cursing on my part. From this...
to this..
Hopefully this jig is bang on. I'll build a boat around it come Monday and do any final adjustments then. Mostly done by eye, but I'll post a picture once a hull is finished.
Before I left work in August I finished a fibreglass mould and the first of (hopefully) many small dinghies my employer would make a sell to fund the charity and pay wages. The mould took me 3 weeks to perfect but as it's done properly, you can make a dinghy a week from it and sell each for about 300 quid. On my return, I was met by the sight of the first boat, still being varnished. These people have fuck all business sense, I swear to God. Anyway, came out all right. Maybe one day they'll wake up and realise they could be making these and selling them for a tidy profit.
Oh, and way back when I made a deck step for a yacht companion way, I realised showing it as it was you couldn't really see what the deck was. So here's a random image outlining the process for small scale decking. Very fiddly bollocks, but good fun when it cleans up nice.
Anyways, so long till next time folks.
