Two thirds of my incomplete band made some demo recordings tonight. Actually, only one third (Jay) played, the other third (me) just ran the recording equipment. Our AWOL third (Brian) canceled mysteriously... this will mean a lively round of ball-busting at our Monday night practice.
We have the beginnings of two new songs to work with now (thanks to Jay). Which means we will no longer sound like the child of Woody Guthrie and Wilco. Jay is a Zappa fan and one hell of great a metal guitarist, and my bass playing trends toward Tool and Primus... the whole Americana/Folk Rock/Alt Country direction that Brian is taking us in isn't going to keep either one of us interested forever if we don't branch out a little. Hopefully, Bri can adjust to us the way we've adjusted to him thus far.
In other news... plans for a trip to Seattle this weekend have been dashed. Apparently, no one has the time or energy for it this weekend, which sucks because I was really looking forward to seeing DeVotchKa... but, at the same time, I'm relieved. This means I don't have to find anyone to watch Maggie.
Speaking of...
The Maggie Report: Still cute. Photos to come in another post.
G'night, John-Boy...

I don't think you give yourself enough credit. We all fall back on our defense mechanisms at times, but I think you're very self-aware.
