Well... I fucked up.
For reasons I'm not quite sure of, I went poking around on petfinder.com earlier and found about 9 million cats that I want to adopt. I don't think The Roommate would care for that much. Though it would be a fun surprise when he comes home from Vegas.
I need to not go back to that website unless I live on my own somewhere.

a word of advice...I came home one day when I lived with a roommate and she had "ta-da!" got a bunny. without asking. I was a little pissed. so check first. it is a swell idea!
