It's against my deepest core beliefs to do so, but I may have to start admitting that I'm actually pretty good at something. I'm not comfortable with it. No, sir... not comfortable at all.
My musician friends in this town are either blowing smoke up my ass, or they mean it when they tell me that I'm a damn good bassist. Since I have offers on the table from three of them to work on various projects, I feel as though I must assume that latter. These are people who know people. They know music and musicians. At this point, I have no choice but to trust them.
Two of them spent the better part of last night telling me to stop playing down the things I do. I've always maintained that I'm just really good at faking my way through songs (which really is what I believe). They claim to hear otherwise. Apparently the "choices" I make when I approach my parts aren't exactly run of the mill.
To me, it feels more like a room full of monkeys with typewriters... blind squirrels finding nuts... etc.
Whatever.
I'm going to stop fighting them... they seem genuine.
