While I didn't find exactly what I was looking for, I did dig up what seems to be old news to probably everyone but me. Johnny Depp wants to play Syd. What's more, there's an online petition AGAINST the idea. What I find most baffling about the author's reasoning against Depp is this quote:
Okay. I just recently read the news that teenage-obsession, Johnny Depp, would like to play the role of Syd Barrett, original front man for Pink Floyd, in an upcoming documentary. This is a mockery to good old rock-'n'-roll. An over-publicized celebrity playing the part of a rockstar whose music has become a tad bit acquired taste--doesn't mix well.
Please. This is not a proposal to get Johnny Depp out of work. Who wants any teenyboppers going around getting interested in LSD, because the person who he potrayed in the film was unfortunately addicted? Exactly. Think about the children.
Mmmmmmmmmkay...
Please, no one tell this guy about Hunter S. Thompson and Depp's involvement in "Fear and Loathing..."
It would crush him.
Personally, I can't think of any actor better suited to play Syd. Depp looks as much like him as anyone I can think of off the top of my head (it's all in the eyes, kids), and he's notoriously good at knocking 'em out of the park in bio-pic roles (again... H.S.T., Ed Wood, etc...).
That's my two cents on a long dead topic...
America, no, the world needs more concerned citizens willing to fight the good fight.
