As an employee at a recycling company I move a lot of empty cans and bottles around. All of the empties we collect get dropped off at the bottle depot in downtown Calgary. It is not a great place to spend a lot of time. First of all, hauling 65 gallon bins full of empty wine bottles is not fun. They are heavy and I...

My New Year's resolution is to buy you a beer in person. Either you come here, or I go to you. But it's happening this year. I swear it.
atomicant:
Seriously. I still have that fucking hat. I'm almost tempted to grunge fuck it now on basic principles. But then I remember I actually LIKE you.

I haven't really been busy but I guess some stuff has happened in the last month.

I celebrated my 27th birthday by driving up to Edmonton to visit my best friend and his wife who had a baby a few days earlier. I held a five day old baby girl. I didn't drop her and I was not puked on. Visit number one was a...

The Thrashers just waived Dawes. -6 in 6 games w/ 6 shots and no points. They want to send him to the AHL though.

I guess Bergfors will be back in now, but who knows?

Some Crazy Shit the Cook at Work Has Told Me

SPOILERS! (Click to view)

There is no such thing as transmitted disease. People can't pass colds or flus to each other. His proof for this is that Mother Theresa never got AIDS even though she worked with sick people. I could have explained to him that it was seriously unlikely that she was sharing needles...

Tough talk from a guy who weighs about the same as the bowel movement Jack Ruby produced.

A couple weeks ago I read this.

It's a book about the search for the Northwest Passage and all of the horrible scurvy-filled, freezing death that ensued. I loved it.

Last week Parks Canada found this.

It's one of the lost rescue ships from the book. It was trapped in the ice for two years and eventually abandoned. They also found the graves of three...

Things I Learned While Playing a Corpse

Tonight I played a corpse for a government funded public safety campaign. I had to sit in front of a mall in a lawn chair for three hours while people from a local radio station handed out flyers and free mints. Here are some things I learned.

  • The hardest part of being dead is not breathing. Closely followed...

Law & Order has been cancelled?!?! But that show is like... uncancelable! For shame.

(I don't have a TV so it takes me a while to catch up with these things.)

Hey sports fans. Why do you cheer for your team? What made them your team?

I was born in northern Alberta in 1983. If you lived north of Red Deer in the 80s there was only one hockey team. They were the Edmonton Oilers. My first memories of hockey are of Wayne Gretzky and Stanley Cups. My dad is an Oilers fan. My mom is...

Sports?

I grew up watching boxing. My father loved boxing. Every afternoon he'd fall asleep watching boxing while watching me. My mother thought it was too violent which made it all the more appealing.

We also grew up in a house with lots of classic WWF/Stampede Wrestling. I loved it, especially in the early days with the female Japanese-style wrestler. I eventually grew out of the wrestling, but not out of the spectacle.

I think that's why I've always been a fan of combat sports. It's why I love martial arts, but hate martial art films, and it's why I find two men beating each other up entertaining.

That makes me ever the more glad I did write it.

It makes it feel like waking up at 7 on a Saturday wasn't a complete waste. smile

Whenever I feel filthy and awful, I've found drinking a gallon of orange juice and then immeditaly swilling mouthwash in the shower makes me feel better for entire minutes. I hope you find a solution that works for you.
