Today is a fine day, a sunny Saturday in Seattle. I walked down to Trader Joes to get groceries and I felt this mysterious sense of affection for everyone I saw. Especially the people walking around carrying little paper shopping lists covered with scribbles. Those folks walk down the aisles with the most endearingly earnest expressions.

When your friends and loved ones turn thirty-one years "young," they are faced with a bewildering dilemma: how does one commemorate this event? Along with forty-seven, thirty-one is arguably one of the least significant birthdays a human being can experience.

And yet day after day, hour after hour, minute after minute, people pass through this confusing chronological gateway. Living in our very midst, these people...

Last week, I left warm, sunny Seattle to take a vacation in a cold, slushy place: Boston. Here are the highlights from the first day of my trip, the most eventful day, Wednesday, the 9th of March:

gosh, for the first day it was very adventuresome. you are one energetic fella for even wanting to make a raspberry-banana shake at 4:30am. i'm very impressed!

i think my favorite time of your day was 11:00 in the morning. wink
orthostice:
Sports fans in Boston, we're a classy bunch.

You obviously weren't lying about 'student' status in your profile, seeing as they check ID at Allston's border to make sure you're either a student or can do a 13-count keg stand before being allowed to enter.

This is a belated Valentine's Day post .. very belated, actually, 19 years belated:

Have you ever received a Valentine's Day Spanking? I did once -- but not in a good way. On Valentine's Day, 1986, I received corporal punishment from my elementary school principal. Our music teacher was cross with us because we were making fun of the John Denver song and we were...

i miss valentine's day being primarily about candy and art projects involving glue sticks... or maybe wax paper, crayon shavings, and an iron.

Upon moving into my apartment building, I was happy to discover these facts: to the south sits a utility closet, to the west, the hallway, to the north and to the east, thin air. So can I jump up and down on the floor and holler? No. The manager lives directly below me, and I try to keep as quiet as I can. However, his...
