Waiting on SoCal BeWaterWise approval for the rebate to remove my turfgrass from the front yard, then I can excavate it all, build a low retaining wall to level the yard, build my redwood fence to match the rest of the yard, add sand & gravel ground cover, and build a raised bed garden and container orchard.
I found a company, Farmscape Gardens, all over LA that will build the bed/add soil/add drip irrigation w/timer and plant, plus weekly maintenance of the garden. I need all the help at least for the first year until I know what I am doing (a little anyway!) The weekly costs are about what I pay for the box of organic produce delivered each week, so I figure I am better off eating my own veggies anyway. $1500 for installation of a 16x4x24" raised bed complete, plus $50/wk for gardening (includes plants, trellises, shade structures, etc) Negotiating a deal to advertise for them, being a visible front yard garden.
