i not very good at socializing
began the spring semester today when people make small talk i never know what to say or how to react
they ask things about me, i answer and nothing else
then a few minutes later relize that i should ask about them
i feel a come off as a self-centered prick
then feel that i am a self-centered prick do i really care about these casual acquaintances?
maybe because i find small talk to be this superficial meaningless act that people feel some sort of societial obligation to perform with others that i never made much of an effort to learn and then come across as cold or odd

Yeah, but it helps you come off as less of a weirdo. I know, I suck at small talk too... you can teach yourself to force it, though. Just talk about the weather if you have to. It's inane and tremendously exhausting, but sometimes it's nice to feel normal.

Most small talk is a means not to find out more about someone but for people to blab about themselves. Most people not but most people ask what do you do for a living only to say what they do.
