Well, I've started writing for the LA Record lately. It's relatively new, but I do like the people involved and its general direction. If you live in LA and want to hear about some cool shit you won't find in LA Weekly or City beat, this is the mag to check out. Look for distros on myspace.

I've got a couple of Black Lung cds. I generally like David Thrussel's work, no matter which name he releases things under. I haven't heard Shinjuku Filth or Thief yet, but since you mentioned them I looked them up. It reads like something I might be interested in.

thats a hello! smile

Well, looks like one of my favorite techno/electronica albums, Qburn's Abstract Message - Feng Shui, has a nice big ole scratch on it. Anyone wanna help a fella out?

I've given the new Black Dice album a listen, and it's sounds pretty good so far. Way better than what they were years ago when they'd play small, word of mouth shows in the NYU circuits.
skinnedknee4114:
What kind of music does black dice play?
charley:
Yes, October is good too, anything but November and August really wink

You know, there really are a ton of postrock bands sounding alike with indistinguishable meandering qualities, but I'm gonna give a nod to "Because of Ghosts" for their production and harmonies. Also Telegraph Melts "Ilium," the band name being lifted from some Jandek album, I think. I've yet to check out the new Lightning Bolt floating around with the bullshit rumor that they built a...

So on your last entry you really should check out Fractal, FLux and Lola! They have been on my favs for a long time.
I was wondering if you have ever heard of Avenged Sevenfold?
Also what do you think of AFI?
furnacedoor:
my kid's not JUST a glam rocker. he's a vampire too! little rascal bit me on the neck the other day....

as far as "post-post-post-punk bands" go the only two that (aren't all hyped out) have impressed me are frog eyes and part chimp. mostly because their reckless urgency sounds sincere. i heard a band the other day called john wilkes booze that reminded me a little bit of the flesheaters. unfortunately their singer isn't nearly as nuts to keeps some of the songs form stinking whatever

all in all i hope the a-frames become so big that the majority of mainstream emo will be washed from the strip with gallons of rubbing alcohol......

Slowly I'm building my list of favorite Suicide Girls, it might be taking a bit of time but it'll be a solid list when it's done biggrin

Excellent, you have great taste wink

the kid is one year and one month, and the most physical comedian i've had the pleasure to meet since knowing the haphazard prowess of iggy pop. seriously, my kid reminds me of iggy! i've got a good friend up in illinois who laughs at that because he can't help but picture an infant rolling in glass and getting b.j.s from the audience!!

So I've applied for membership at Misanthropes R US, waiting for the creator guy to approve my application. One thing I noticed was that having friends and a journal helped you get in.. fucking unbelievable. Here we are dealing with a misanthropes community and it's expected that you actually partake in the droning, self absorbed, time consuming online diary shit. Methinks this group might just...

no, i'm sure - i pulled it out and double checked it - i have the 2003 reissue on Reprise - apparently there was one on Warner from 2004 - that must be the one with the bonus tracks, but i can't find a listing for it ANYWHERE!

that said, your offer for helping out is appreciated... smile
furnacedoor:
actually the coltrane i picked up yesterday was 'cresent'. which does not feature migus on bass(jimmy garrison plays on this one). i've been listening to jazz all my life but am still a noob as far as collecting it goes. if you can point me in the direction of the lp you speak of i'd appreciate that 'cause i do love me some mingus

and you just might be right about the misathropes community.....because those two words together look like an oxymoron to me wink
