ah ben, i will miss you, for letting me talk nonesense to you at all hours of the night. sigh, too bad yu joined the army, it shall be a bit befor i can see you again. lol, i am Dixie and Ben is Liek a Goat, i thought it was interesting, thought i would gauge others opinions as well.
DixieLullaby [12:27 A.M.]: i always wished i had that kind of conviction
liek a goat [12:28 A.M.]: but I suppose it's good that he likes it.
liek a goat [12:28 A.M.]: what do you mean conviction?
liek a goat [12:28 A.M.]: what do you what to be able to do?
DixieLullaby [12:28 A.M.]: be completely and utterly selfless
liek a goat [12:29 A.M.]: see, I don't think I'd liek being so selfless.
liek a goat [12:30 A.M.]: but according to the bible and most other theological and religious materials, I could be.
liek a goat [12:30 A.M.]: but I don't know.
liek a goat [12:30 A.M.]: I want to believe in freee will.
DixieLullaby [12:31 A.M.]: you can, you just have the the free will to make the decision to be selfless
DixieLullaby [12:31 A.M.]: which is why i am not
DixieLullaby [12:31 A.M.]: and you are not, and really very few people are
liek a goat [12:32 A.M.]: I just don't like giving up all control to a suppreme being with out knowing the entire plan.
liek a goat [12:32 A.M.]: but that would be selfless wouldn't it.
liek a goat [12:32 A.M.]: good point.
liek a goat [12:33 A.M.]: The weird thing is, I've had a God high before a few times, where I jsut completely let go and every thing just sort of comes together, but I've also just completely let go and crashed.
liek a goat [12:34 A.M.]: and there is no promise that you are going to be alright in life, but only in death.
liek a goat [12:34 A.M.]: Of which I'm secretly scared of, not because of the transformation, but because I won't get to do the things I once got to do while alive.
liek a goat [12:35 A.M.]: Cause I like life so much.
DixieLullaby [12:35 A.M.]: that makes sense
liek a goat [12:35 A.M.]: and yet since death is longer than life, I think I should comit.
liek a goat [12:36 A.M.]: and I think I should commit anyways because the cause is greater than my own.
liek a goat [12:36 A.M.]: so I'm very much often two faced about such things in mind.
DixieLullaby [12:36 A.M.]: its hard to commit to an uncertainty though, and while certainty is the goal,it is one that is very diffacult to reach
liek a goat [12:36 A.M.]: that is why they call it Faith.
liek a goat [12:38 A.M.]: I've had this conversation so many times.
liek a goat [12:38 A.M.]: with so many people, and no matter how much evidence I seem to recieve, there is never certanty, and always about the choice.
DixieLullaby [12:40 A.M.]: which is how we can be certian isn't it
DixieLullaby [12:41 A.M.]: ?
DixieLullaby [12:41 A.M.]: its a lovely little catch 22
liek a goat [12:41 A.M.]: what do you mean?
DixieLullaby [12:42 A.M.]: god promised us everylasting love and live if we could make the choice to fully commit
DixieLullaby [12:42 A.M.]: but, be gave us free will, we have to do it on our own
liek a goat [12:43 A.M.]: don't you just wish sometimes we were angels.
liek a goat [12:44 A.M.]: no I don't think I'd liek that after all.
liek a goat [12:44 A.M.]: I like my free will
DixieLullaby [12:45 A.M.]: but because of the free will, it is nighnear impossible, since we would have to all but give it up, and that goes completely against it
DixieLullaby [12:46 A.M.]: and yes, iwish there were angels all the time
DixieLullaby [12:54 A.M.]: its all about perspective really, everything is all about persepctive
liek a goat [12:55 A.M.]: what do you mean?
liek a goat [12:55 A.M.]: like when you think it a sign from god verses a freak number of coincidenses.
DixieLullaby [12:56 A.M.]: that is an example
liek a goat [12:57 A.M.]: what example would you give?
DixieLullaby [12:59 A.M.]: for example, i feel weird today, it could be because something bad is going to happen, it oculd be because something good is going to happen, but i choose to beleive that it is a good premonition, and so, when something good happens, and it eventually wiil, i will be able to say that i was right
liek a goat [12:59 A.M.]: hahaha
DixieLullaby [12:59 A.M.]: if i chose to beleive the it is a bad premonition, when something bad happened i would be able to say i was right as well
liek a goat [1:01 A.M.]: So you are saying God will only exist if you want him to?
DixieLullaby [1:02 A.M.]: i am saying that god
DixieLullaby [1:02 A.M.]: god's existance is irrelavent because he doesn't need to exist in order to save us
DixieLullaby [1:02 A.M.]: but at the same time
DixieLullaby [1:02 A.M.]: he does
DixieLullaby [1:02 A.M.]: and whether i acknollege him or not he is there
DixieLullaby [1:03 A.M.]: somewhere in china there is a little girl i have never met, she exists, but by never ackonllaging her, for all itnensive purposes she does not
DixieLullaby [1:04 A.M.]: destiny in the making is nigh near impossible to decipher, there are signs of course, but there are an infantasible number ofways to misinterpret them
DixieLullaby [1:05 A.M.]: the past however, is easy to see, when given a little persepective you can see how everything led you to where you are so perfectly
DixieLullaby [1:05 A.M.]: the future, well, it's a little different
liek a goat [1:06 A.M.]: So are you saying god only exists if I need him to?
DixieLullaby [1:06 A.M.]: no, i am saying god only makes a difference in your life if you allow him to, god will exist no matter what
liek a goat [1:07 A.M.]: well put
DixieLullaby [1:07 A.M.]: thank you
liek a goat [1:07 A.M.]: verywell put.
DixieLullaby [1:08 A.M.]: thank you
liek a goat [1:10 A.M.]: But here is the thing though, I am allowing god into only a partial bit of my life, and not giving wholeheartedly or selflessly, Thus god will make only a partial difference in my life.
liek a goat [1:10 A.M.]: hahaha
liek a goat [1:11 A.M.]: I no what I need to do.
liek a goat [1:11 A.M.]: know*
liek a goat [1:11 A.M.]: and it's an easy choice to make.
liek a goat [1:11 A.M.]: so why can't I make it?
DixieLullaby [1:11 A.M.]: becaue you have your free will
liek a goat [1:11 A.M.]: hahahaha
DixieLullaby [12:27 A.M.]: i always wished i had that kind of conviction
liek a goat [12:28 A.M.]: but I suppose it's good that he likes it.

knives2meatyou:
Well THAT is a whole topic unto itself, now isn't it? People's views on God and the hereafter always interest me, probably because I don't subscribe myself to any religious meaning to God. John Lennon once said that God is a concept through which we measure our pain, but I don't really buy that either. God is a concept to my way of thinking, but a concept well beyond our ability to comprehend. I'll give you an example of what I mean: I have a dog, and if I sit down with him to discuss, say George Berkeley, there is a strong likelihood that my dog will have no idea what I'm talking about (and neither, potentially, will I). However, if in my critique of the Berkeley's philosophy I say, "what individuals know about an object is their perception of it; therefore, although I sit in this chair there is no chair but for my belief in the chair's existence," my dog will hear a lot of "blah blah blah" and then the word "sit." And he will sit. That's about as much of God as we can comprehend, a lot of things we will sense but not understand. But every so often something happens (like my dog hearing "sit") that, for a moment at least, gives us a glimpse of what's behind the curtain. People may call it dj vu, or maybe they'll see it as a sign or an omen, but it's the nature of humans to worship and fear what they can't understand, so we turn those moments of fleeting clarity into religious epiphanies and bow down. Humans used to bow down to the sun and the stars; now they bow down to the Guy who's going to grant their most fervent wish, or statutes of dead people (if in fact these people ever existed in the first place). So by my way of thinking, in that respect at least, we haven't progressed all that much over the last many thousands of years. Although, in a great many ways of course, we have (like for example, you and I having this exchange of comments).
