"Bright Eyed and Bushy Tailed"
Yep, Happy Monday.
The highlight of my weekend was Sunday. I didn't have to work. I turned the phone off and did whatever I felt like doing. I even slept in !!! A rare luxury I assure you.
I was craving thin crust, crispy pizza, all weekend, I don't mean Pizza Hut - blegh - I mean good wholesome, fucking delicious thin crust pizza. So Sunday I decided that I would do a little baking in the evening. I made a sponge in the AM and let it run all day, for those of you who don't know a sponge (starter) is a H20, yeast and flour blend that helps increase the flavor of breads/pizza/etc. Through fermentation the carbohydrates are broken down and the sugars are released, thereby upping the flavor and increasing texture. Something like that.....
So in the early evening I am getting ready to make the dough and realize I don't have any decent cheese at the house...no bueno to put shitty cheese on bombalicious pizza......I went to the market and well in typical Fancy fashion I was walking out 20 minutes later with an appetizer, new toppings for the pizza and a dessert envisioned I swear, I just went for cheese.
Last night was Italian Night at my house.
Here is the menu:
Anise and Citrus Insalata
Golden Flax Pizza w/ turnip greens, caramelized onion, cheese blend.
*I shaved some white truffles over this pizza, and even used a little truffle oil
and yes it was sex in the mouth
Panna Cotta - Buttermilk and Blackberry
Yeah, yeah, I know who's the idiot that cooks on her day off after spending 60+ hours doing it all week. As an artist it is important to give back a little to yourself
Speaking of that, I went to a local art fair yesterday in Tiny Town ( Historic Roswell).
There was a stand set up where people could take their children and let them paint. It was so fascinating to stand behind 8+ kids, ranging in ages from toddler to early teen, and to watch what they decided to paint. A blank canvas can be very intimidating, at least for some but man these kids were going to town. There was everything from scribbles, splotches, daisies and doggies, to even a pointillist rendition of the fair itself......sorry I don't have any photographs, my camera was loaned out at that moment.
I also saw this band from Costa Rica play. Their specialty was that this one guy played all these wooden wind instruments. The music was quite beautiful. It made me long for sunny days in Puerto Rico. I was a little embarrassed when I realized I was the only person standing there -watching-
This is my favourite picture from the weekend

Standing up is the hard part, especially when you are tired, beat, and exhausted. But I find a reason to believe, to fight and to get back up.
Harry S Truman is a personal hero of mine. I love most of the quotes attributable to him.
Thanks for dropping a line.
