Holy dooly. A lot has been happening. Ironically, so much has been happening that I haven't really had time to blog.
A quick summary:
I officially became an architect.
I turned 30 (I really need to join the Geezers group).
I've been organising shootfests in Sydney and Brisbane (along with @countessa, @pebblezink and our awesome photographers)
I've been making plans for the 2015 Annual Ball (along with @countessa and @christina)
I became staff photographer for SuicideGirls.
A bunch of sets Countessa and I shot have gone into MR.
We shot a bunch of sets that I can't wait for you all to see.
Okay....now for details:
So after six years of study, ten years in the industry and three years running my own business with Countessa, I'm officially an architect. And I managed it just before I turned 30 which was a long long term goal of mine. So what does that mean? Until now I could only call myself a 'building designer.' In Australia you don't have to be an architect to design houses (you just have to be able to draw decent plans), but most people don't realise that and they want an architect. So to continually have to explain that you are not legally an architect is kinda bad for business. Well that's no longer a problem, and as far as I can tell, business has already picked up. We've got a load of interesting clients (and we're also working on a clocktower for my hometown, commissioned by a local pioneering family, which is fairly exciting).
I also turned 30. Which is good and bad depending how you look at it. As far as I'm concerned, it's just a number and has no significance in and of itself. But it was a good enough reason to throw a big 1990s themed birthday party. Which I failed to take any photos of....luckily @countessa took some. Any of you other kids who came along manage to take some pictures? @unicorn @flagg @buttermykittens @kiah_xx @twiggy ???
Countessa in her awesome 90s gear. So cute. I am legitly so excited that 90s gear is in fashion at the moment. This was a highpoint of fashion. From Clueless to the Macarena, from Spice Girls to Jennifer Aniston's nipples, this was a great decade for fashion. The party made me nostalgic as fuck. It was amazing.
Some of the 90s food....we had fairy bread, shitty cheddar cubes and second rate cabanossi, chupa chups, warheads, fizzwizz, and those little tubes of coloured lollies with the twisty wrapper. Oh and honey chicken wings. I love 90s fashion, but food has come a long way since then. Oh and that is a framed picture of 90210. You're seeing correctly.
@countessa and @mouse. Mouse was a little confused by 90s party and dressed like it was 90 AD. Toga, flower crown and all. I'm not sure if they had flower crowns back then, but who cares about details.
Fairy bread. So much fairy bread. Cost me $2.50 to make (Countessa actually put it together). America, I hear you don't have fairy bread. You need to fix this, toute fucking suite. Hundreds and thousands (not sprinkles, sprinkles are second rate bullshit), cheap margarine and shitty white bread. You cannot go wrong. This plate got demolished within about a half hour of the party starting.
The decorations were all Countessa's work. She is amazing and prolific. She made this banner to take selfies in front of. S for stussy right? Apparently stussy never used this symbol. Ever. Must be S for selfie then. Remember cassette tapes? They were awful. Let's never remember them.
Okay what's next?
Shootfests!
We've got two planned for this year. Sydney (next week, lawks!) and Brisbane in May. These are going to be the biggest shootfests ever to happen in Australia. The Sydney one has 39 models coming along, including 9 SuicideGirls (which is the biggest gathering of Aussie SGs ever). Five photographers, three days of shooting, and around 60 sets. That's more sets than were shot in the whole of Australia in 2013. It is going to be amazing.
Sydney ladies, if you haven't booked in for a shoot, there are still a few spots available (like three or four spots. They won't last.) Here's the flyer:
@pebblezink is the creative genius behind this shootfest, with me, @countessa and @puffin helping out. @atlanticlungs and I are also shooting, but we're currently all booked out!
Then in May we're hitting up Brisbane. Here's the flyer:
This one is only about half booked up. So if you want to shoot a set, get in contact with a photographer, and book yourself in. The house we have is gorgeous and full of light, and we'll have six photographers there. It's going to be mega.
@christina and @countessa and I have also been making plans for the Ball. Expect announcements and dates and details very soon (probably once we've finished with this Sydney shootfest. Or maybe before. Either way, it's going to be good).
Okay now photoset news. There is heaps.
@countessa's most recent set Hypothermia hit MR and has been getting an amazing response. Along with Secret Garden and Heliotrope that's three sets in a row with 2000+ likes. I'd really like to see these sets on the front page, because not only is she mindblowingly amazing and beautiful, she does do much for SG in Australia, from organising shootfests to recruiting girls to organising the ball to keeping everyone abreast of what's happening and promoting the site across the interwebz. Anyway here are a few pics from those sets:
Today @emmameow and @opheliacreep hit MR with sets that we shot at the Annual Ball last year in Melbourne. Countessa also has a set coming up from that, but it's another two months away.
Emmameow in Owl and Finch
@opheliacreep in Blue Ivy
You should definitely go and have a look at these two, they are both astoundingly excellent models, and they both have a whole series of amazing sets on SG that need to be on the front page.
In other seriously exciting news, @strawberrysiren is back on SG. Some of you may remember her as a hopeful back around 2006-2009....there was a set on a rooftop, a set in a bath full of money, and one mid-tattoo session. She was one of the first Australian models I found when I joined back in 2007, and I was despondent when her sets were passed over and she left the site. So we shot a set with her while she was in Canberra the other day, and she is beyond amazing. Here's a few sneak previews:
So go and say gday and welcome her back to the site.
And a few days ago we also shot newbie @delilahjayne and I am really chuffed with how it turned out. It's going to be an awesome debut set, so give her a follow and make sure you don't miss it when it comes out in a few months. Here's some previews:
Anyway, that's all from me for now. Next blog should be full of pics from the Sydney shootfest. It's going to be amazing.
