Trying to find jobs before Christmas is as fruitful as an orchard in a drought. Unfortunately I'm required to apply for ten per fortnight to keep my dole cheque.
The irony is that if I applied for a christmas elf job in some godawful mall I wouldn't get it, because 14 year olds are cheaper, and I have no experience in retail.
Meanwhile Christmas is here. I read an article recently that described Christmas in Australia as basically a nostalgia festival. We parade around covering everything in fake snow and put up fir trees and dangle icicle shaped christmas lights from our eaves, in forty degree heat. A place around the corner from me has put down white styrofoam fabric over it's entire garden so that it looks like it's snowed there. It's a collective subconscious yearning for our Northern European roots (those who have Northern European roots at least).
I, for one, am against it. I'll be celebrating midsummer instead. I'll get together with my folks and exchange gifts, get pickled on port, and eat too much fruit cake. I'll do all this while wearing board shorts and a shearer's singlet (aka wifebeater). I'll save the snow for winter, where it belongs.

Totally.. I'm not that keen on seeing some of my old blog posts to be honest.. I quite liked having them as a momento of old stuff that's happened, but don't really want them paraded up front and center. Ah well. Sooo many things to get used to in this new site!
