So I was supposed to be hooked up to the internet by now. But no. said SBC Internet Services. That would be too easy. Instead, why don't we tell Phil that his service has been cancelled? Then, the next day, we'll tell him it's not, then put him on hold for 90 minutes (using up a third of his monthly anytime minutes in the process) and come back to tell him that whoops, maybe it actually WAS cancelled. Then, five days later, we still won't have done shit!
That pissed me off quite a bit, so I blew off some steam on Saturday night with some friends at Rocket (the indie rock dance night at Cat Club in SF), and then last night watched a show by NYC's wonderful My Favorite. They played the intimate (read: smaller than my bedroom) Hotel Utah in SF. Any time someone describes a venue like The Fillmore, The Warfield, or even Slim's as "intimate", I can now scoff at them. The only way this would have been more intimate would be if they played in the bathroom. Hmmm... that would be an interesting show... Drummer sitting on the toilet, guitarist perched on the sink, bassist standing in the doorway, and the audience in the bathtub! Anyway, I fell in love with the pixy-ish singer and her cute-as-hell dimples, and the music wasn't too bad either. Anyome who likes The Smiths, New ORder, Psychedelic Furs, etc should check out some of their stuff... like this song.
And last Friday, I saw Moving Units with The Fever, where I met up with billyboy. He's every bit as rad in person as he is online, so it was a really awesome time, and made a great show even better!

And venues! Yeah, I don't know where places like the Fillmore get off saying "intimate". I think it must fit one of these three catagories to be able to wear the badge of intimate:
A) You can actually touch the ceiling (bonus points it someone can actually get there arm smacked with a ceiling fan when dancing) ...
B) The stage is so low and small that you basically just can see the bands heads bobbing and the occasional guitar neck...
C) My personal fave - The room is so small and poorly ventalated that you can feel yourself breathing in others sweat and you don't get out without catching at least two airborn viruses
