Yeah, this year I had to send out a massive email telling my husband's sisters that we were staying home for Christmas. My parents live far away (in Arkansas) and his mom has dementia, so she doesn't really care where she has Christmas, as long as she has family around her. I was soooo worried about pissing off his eldest sister, but I was just honest with her. My kids are young and they hate having to leave their home on Christmas day to drive two and a half hours to Sonoma to do the family thing. This year I actually have to look after my neighbors' pets while they're away, so I had a viable excuse. But mostly I just felt sorry for my kids. They deserve to have a jammie day and play with their toys. I did invite anyone who wanted to come to stay with us, though. And you know what? Nobody got mad at me. And Hubby's younger sister and their mama are going to come and spend the holiday with us. Sometimes we just have to honor what is best for our family. But I know it must be harder when you have to let down your own parents. Maybe try to celebrate on a different day with them? Good luck!
Oh, and I have been meaning to tell you forever that "Oh Mighty Isis" was my Goddess of choice when I was a little girl. Damn, I loved that show!
