ode to an hour
i missed it today-
do you see my point?
we cannot live like this
the sun setting golden and clear
without us
the scent of flowers was in the air
and we did not smell them
or feel the warm breeze on our faces.
instead we worked
never looking up from our screens
accomplishing a lot of nothing
as it turned out
and she
did not laugh
or catch my eye
in fact she has never once spoke
nor did we touch
and why should she?
it is only that i miss such things that the thought
should even enter my mind.
i should have said, "i need an hour"
and then left and bicyled down to the river
and back
and then sat beside the cows
zen i mean
gathering myself
to myself
and gone over my thoughts of the piece
which are new
an hour that should have been
and wasn't

ohsoordinary:
Time spent regretting is wasted if an equal amount of time is not spent making a change.
