I just got out of aikido practice, and let me tell you there is no better taste than the taste of water when you thirst. There is no better smell than the smell of fresh air when you find yourself short of breath. Yeah, yeah, yeah... I know what you're thinking, "what about pussy?" Okay, you got me there.
What a hectic day! A week ago my manager informed me that I would be giving a presentation tomorrow afternoon on a software application I wrote that helps us engineers in the design process. I thought no problem, I'll continue to work on my current project and spend Wednesday (today) preparing the presentation. Then, yesterday at 5:00pm he asked me if my presentation was ready for today at 1:00PM. I was a little thrown off, but I stayed late last night and came in early this morning to finish it on time. Anyway, I was still working on a few last edits around 11:00AM when he told me it was time to go on. Fortunately, I was ready enough, and I think everything went pretty well. Whenever I get nervous in front of a crowd, I just remember "sutemi!" I learned that in kendo class, a "hail-Mary, go-for-broke attack." So, I guess the lesson I learned from all this is: always be prepared for the worst! I think.
Well, tomorrow is Melissa's birthday. Every year I try to take her out for champagne breakfast on her birthday. Unfortunately, tomorrow morning I have an important conference to attend. I've been so busy lately, I haven't had time to get her a present. I was going to get her this really cool, 3'x3'x5', wooden, bird cage occupied with ten finches, but then last week she told me she wanted an antique, garnet ring for her present. So, I think I will try to cut out of work after the conference and take her ring shopping in the afternoon.
Keep it real kids, and thanks for reading my journal. It means a great deal to me... no, really... I'm serious.
