I'm getting tooooooooo specialized. My entry into SG was to open up another side and I find myself continuing the same line of thought here as in my "real" life. ENOUGH! Poetry, song lyrics, madddddd ravings-----that's all you will hear from me from now on. (Dresden, we're still good smile but my journal is going off in a different direction.) Escape! Reality of dreams and nightmares!...

Hey! Guess what I just did!?! I just saw the amazingly inspirational Jane Goodall give a lecture on her life and current dedication to the environment and peace! It was so great, and made me think of you, as we are both female biologists. Her work was pretty fuckin rad, are you familiar with it? I never knew more than the basics of her story. She is an incredible woman!

Sorry. I mean...poetry and artsy fartsy, and stuff... biggrin

Off on a tangent is a good place to be. That's what brought me here. Everyone here is different, but in a good way. Anything you wanna talk about is fair game. Just say it! smile

Seminar, the girl speaks; semen hour, the boys have other things on their minds--not me, not my research, not anything I can figure out. They didn't read my data and ask questions of each other as if I am not in the room--and I slowly shrink behind my coffee cup and peer out from around the side to observe without interrupting the important conversations taking...

What were you're findings? Two weeks in the field, you would have to have come up with something.
dresden:
Hello,
That's really interesting! What's their main homeland? Just a single body of water? Or will they travel into new territory? I've never really looked into salamanders or amphibians that much in general. I did have a small group of dendrobates and mantellas for a while. But keeping flies is just a pain. smile And they stink! I just got tired of having more cultures of flies than frogs I guess. PA, has some interesting sallies though. No Ensatinas. Atleast not that I know of.
I found some good info about studying Timbers in PA. The game commision here has a tagging and tracking program. I printed out the permit to hunt and study Timbers. I'm kind of leery about getting it though. There are someplaces I know of dens that I don't think others know of. And I'd rather keep it that way. When people around here find out that I'm into snakes and I go out looking for rattlers they wanna know where I go. I never tell anyone. Next thing ya know people are crashing all through these places and someone will get bit or the snakes will start being shy. One place I go to, the snakes never really see anyone. I sat for a longtime and watched a huge female yellow phase and about 40 babies for about an hour. She never moved except to keep up with the sun. Watched me the whole time, but never rattled or went away. It was amazing!

Sorry got kind of long winded there. smile Good luck with your seminar!

More than two weeks since I have had access to a computer and crimes of passion---but the other three of the "five C's" were well taken care of. Most of the packed food weight was coffee and chocolate and it rained for most of the time camping in the field. I spent far more days away than I had planned and ran out of food...

Your response in my journal made me giggle for so many reasons! You are friggin funny!

Okay, lets see...the boy broke his face like six years ago, so dont worry. But thank you so much for the thoughtfullness! <---is that a word?

He broke his face mountain biking, sans helmet. On the motorcycle I wear a full face helmet, leather jacket, and jeans, and also I like to pretend magic gnomes cast magic spells around my not so magic and vulnerable body. 100% of riders go down. I prefer not to think about it, and just make sure Im the best prepared for when it happens.

rantrantrant. I think the wine went str8 to my head.

The comix - yes I am the subject, alas Im not the artist. I am bubbling with creativity and passion, yet was blessed with NO ARTISTIC ABILITY!!! So I make my brain my canvas, and fill it with science. Im sure you understand.

Tonight I discovered Shiraz...highly underrated...

Rain forecast for the entire week. Already cloudy. The rain has a wonderful, positive influence on my life. I've always liked the rain and it is probably what drew me to my graduate research. My animals come out in the rain, and so must I smile

It also means I don't have to go to classes or to seminar, because everyone understands that I have to...

OK, so that's why they call it "suicidegirls"--you get your hopes up that someone will share your interests and no one does--doesn't seem worth suicide though--maybe I'll just take my clothes off :-))

maurauder:
Awwww, dont give up so soon! I've been here almost a year and have just started making some friends. I never see you on the boards - thats the best way to meet people. You dont gotta take yer clothes off (although we wouldn't mind) biggrin

Lab days aren't as good as field days, but today was pretty good. Overcast outside and the lab was empty. Made it through seven samples and all of them were clean. Rare.

The owl was outside through the window in the pine again. Sat there all day. I never see it cough up its little trophies, but they are under the tree fairly regularly. Little...

Imagined being lost in the field today--eerie feeling that I could wake up some morning and forget where I was. That I might not make it back to base and in a rush lose the path. Sounded good.

Field season is just now picking up and I'll be in the field for days at a time. My girlfriend, Jennifer, is working in Wyoming and Colorado...

Back from the field tired but exhilarated. Found more animals than expected after the heavy rains. How do they stay so clean while I have come back muddy from head to toe? I have never seen them do more than feeble attempts at removing a leaf from their nose or debris from their mouths. And, yet, they remain clean and beautiful . . . glistening...

Raining now in California . . . finally! Writing, writing, writing . . . best in the rain. My animals are out and happy . . . migrating over countryside. It's a project. They are carrying their heritage from stream to stream hoping to make an impact on the future. They are fish that travel on land . . . I empathize.
