My SG tokens are running out and I'm hopping through New York to Italy on Friday. Thanks to all my virtual friends for playing with me over the last few months. I was just getting comfortable with the boards (and correcting the opinions of so many --tongue firmly in cheek) wink I have enjoyed my stay with you and now I say farewell, and wish me...

You are my idol...just going off to Italy...*sigh* Will you have email? Can we stay in touch? I would love to talk to someone who is actually there. I'm very interested in living vicariously through you...then when I do go, I'll have someone to go out drinking tequila shots with... wink

No, no webcast of the radio show yet...yet....I'm going to work on it...I'll let you know if we do...And the Naked Chicks on Radio thing...well, there were 3 times in particular that I'm thinking of that would qualify, I suppose. However, according to the FCC...nope..we're always clothed, all the time... wink And NOTHING has EVER happened in the bathroom at work, either...(shhh, Catie...don't tell on me...)

Please stay....at least in touch...you're incredible! kiss

I'm very, very sorry about your mother but the type of offense wasn't the point. There's no reason to take offense at something I said that had absolutely nothing to do with you and leave a comment on my page telling me that I said something "stupid".

It was harder than I thought, but I think I arranged a great conclusion to my graduate years. In fact I feel great satisfaction.

All during my research I have had one great undergrad helper in the lab. When I dragged my ass in after days of field collecting, I could count on her to preserve and store all the materials. She also learned all...

Well I'm certainly glad everything worked out! That sounds great, Italia it is!!

And to finally answer your question, yes I check me email. That was totally funny.

Sorry I've been so aloof. Finals surreal

You are sooo amazing! You have completely succeeded at your studies and still shared it all to help someone else to succeed as well! Not to mention carry on the legacy! Will that be pulitzer or just plain cookie! You're awesome! biggrin

From out of the blue I get this letter from the registrar telling me I have earned my masters degree under schedule B. Apparently without knowing it I took enough classes in graduate school here and at my former school to qualify for a masters with units rather than writing a thesis. Is this smile or frown , or is it mad cuz I never even thought about,...

Nice Winged Migration critique. What I appreciated about the film was its perspective. I agree that the footage was overly focused on a limited range birds (birds that people kill with guns?). Im also aware that the birds were trained to become comfortable with the glider. Even so, one of the best ways to get people out of their shallow, anthropocentric shells is to show them a world from another perspective. I like the fact that Winged Migration glorified some of the garbage birds rather than lending its entire documentary weight to the standard plumage birds.

Id be willing to wander the Rockies and wander its watersheds. I spent three months wandering giardia-free Chile. Im into water.

Wow thats awsome about the seminar! Congratulations!

As for you're question, parasitology is something I am interested in. That is to say, I havn't actually had much of a chance to study it yet. blush

The schistasomes I may get a chance to study this summer sound pretty amazing. They have a triple host life cycle, starting with a marine snail. Eggs hatch in the snail, and then snail is eaten by fish. Worms develope in the fish, and actually cause the fish (physiologically? psycologically?) to start swimming on it's side! This of course makes the fish an easy target to spot by predatory birds, which just so happen to be the necessary final host for the schistasome. I think thats pretty fascinating!

Continues to rain on and off. Very productive week and I'm actually looking forward to some time off from writing and anything that is chore-like this weekend. This weekend should be sunny and I'm hoping for no wind--hate wind unless it comes with heavy storms. If no wind, I'll probably drive to the coast and camp. Clam chowder sounds real good right now.

I studied meteorology as one of the wayward paths of early college (and so that I could take a class entitled severe and unusual weather patterns and go storm chasing). Anyway, you Canadians are always sending us your cold upper air. Could you please cut it out?

Dresden asked a very important question. How do I organize (my research/writing)---insert "life".

How do you organize your life? How do you plan? How do you assure that plans are followed up on?

prioritize... for me, that is the only way I keep my head above water...

thanks for the words of encouragement!

and as far as organization, i make almost daily lists, that i promptly lose and remake constantly while forgetting what i was supposed to do in the first place that i didn't do because i was busy making a list. then again, my system isn't the best...

No more classes, no more books, no more, no more---very sad. Still have to enroll in summer school so that I can file, but only grad writing class and then I'm done. Postpartum bloooze.

Since high school I always thought this would be heady times; instead it is somewhat depressing---no big thrills, just the soft click of a door latching behind me. Milestones--millstones.

Anyone thinking...

i think the grossest of all is that i still have that little fuckers body in a hello kitty tin, along with the monarch wing - right next to me. i didn't know yellowjackets and wasps were the same.

maybe i should lay off animal planet and start watching the discovery channel wink

Are your questions bigger? I had no idea questions came in sizes. Perhaps they only look bigger because they're closer to you; perspective can be a tricky thing you know.

Mine was taken in the Black Rock desert, which is in northwest Nevada. In the middle of it is a dry Pliestocene lake bed, rouhly 10 miles wide by 60 miles long.

During winter rains, the lake bed turns into a mud pit. The photo was taken in August, but those tracks were likely made in February or March.

Before I moved out of the country, I used to get together there once every year with about 10-15 of my friends for a long weekend. We would set up a disgustingly opulent campsite: multi-room pavilions, oriental rugs, moroccan cushions, you get the idea. Also a large, fully functioning kitchen. Then on Saturday, we held a cockktail party, followed by a gourmet feast, followed by swing dancing under the stars to the sounds of Glenn Miller and Benny Goodman.

Roughing it can be such a trial.

Oh, Great! I only had two friends and one of them, Dresden, just bailed SG.

Do you have to be f**kin naked to get a friend? This is getting to be more like real life all the time!

California dreamin' . . . no more trips to California, rainy season over. Maybe one more storm will take me down, but the field season is over, instruction ends next week and my thesis is due in May.

Train leaving for Italy soon. Jen and I are taking two weeks to wait out the decisions on our respective futures in academia. Jen's boyfriend has a...
