So, this is vaguely inspired by this week's blog homework, which is about favourite scents and for some reason made me think about scents to wear, a.k.a. perfumes, colognes, aftershaves and so on. And I realised that I can tell you exactly how much perfume I've used in my life. The reason is very simple: it was all from one bottle, and I still have that bottle.
It is a 3.4 fl. oz. (or 100ml for us metrically inclined people) bottle of "Tommy" by Tommy Hilfinger, which my partner at the time and I must have picked up at some point in the mid to late 90s. I've actually used it daily for several years, until for some reason I grew out of the habit. Yet in spite of that, it is still two thirds full, because you know, I really hate it when people overdo it with their scents. Which means, my lifetime total of perfume use is just a little over 1 fl. oz. (or 30ml).
Amusingly, I just noticed that it says "Cologne" on the bottle, which I assume must be a trick to get men to buy perfume, because were I am from (hint: not all that far away from the actual place), Cologne is something one splashes all over one's face. I definitely don't want "Tommy" all over my face, and besides, if it were meant to be used that way, why does it have a spray thingie at the top?
I know y'all of the feminine persuasion are now wisely shaking your heads and muttering something like "men and cosmetics, typical," and you know what? Enjoy that sentiment! You've earned it. ;-)
