Hence my quotation marks around objective. I don't even like the word. I like particle physics when they basically give up on traditional notions of 'objectivity'... and the whole fact that it's rarely fact, but always 'theory', that guides them. I like it when people try to undermine humans' innately arrogant attitude to knowledge.

Yeah, that discussion tested even my bizarro relativist strains. 'First do no harm', and 'second... don't be a prick.' Two underrated guiding principles? I don't have the rigour to do that sort of thing in dialogue - give me an essay format and a few weeks, and I can pull it together, but one on one I do tend to flip out of my delicate little head.

I'm writing an essay about Gonzo history, which is rather fun.

And who'd have thought that a modernist writer could be (bizarrely) misogynist? Waiting for Prostrate would perhaps not have taken off so well as a play.

Talking faster wouldn't help me. One of the most common reasons that I stumble over my words is that I'm mentally stepping back from what I'm saying and editing it. Sometimes I'll make three or four false starts into a sentence as I keep thinking of different ways to express something. If I spoke faster all that would happen would be I'd get even further into what I was saying before I had to reverse out of the sentence and come back into it, and that would make me even more annoying to listen to.

I'm told I have a pleasant speaking voice, which hopefully is useful in winning me a little grace on things like this.
