First sitting.

This is the story.
Watanabe no Tsuna
That version of the story was adapted as a children's folk tale. Mike Malone tells a version in which Oni (the ogre) retrieves the arm and strikes Watanabe down. I've heard both versions more than once, but Rollo's the one who told Miles and I the story, so his version is the one we're going with.
I have another image of this story scanned - the one used to physically frame the one that I will wear - but it didn't post well once the size was reduced.
The characters themselves will be rooted in the style and color palette of Tsukioka Yoshitoshi.
Watanabe:
Meeting with the old woman/Oni:
Here is the progress after the first sitting. The other two tattoos (the Erte and the Niagara) will probably be covered by the third or fourth sitting. I'm quite pleased so far. This piece will be both wicked big and freakin' huge. I'm here to tell you: You haven't lived until you've had an electric needle in the crack of your ass. Seriously.
If you're getting work done in Chicago, I cannot recommend Miles or Taylor Street Tattoo highly enough. Clearly, today wasn't my first trip to a tattoo shop. I'm not a pillar of the body mod community, but I'm no greenhorn either. Trust me when I say that those guys are the real deal.
Anticipation is wonderful.
Heart, mind, body and soul becoming consumed with the promise of what lies ahead.
The tension grows, winding me tighter and tighter.
When the moment comes, and the anticipation explodes from the abstract mind into concrete and undeniable reality, it's bound to leave marks.
Yeah, I'm lookin' at you.
