This past weekend brought us an absolutely gorgeous Sunday here in Montreal. Not to cold, plenty of sunshine and nothing particular to do. So @niqtweets and I grabbed some much-needed brunch and set out to do something that I absolutely love to do: Hit up used record and bookstores.
My excitement at pawing through Dollar Bins at comic conventions is well known, but I also have a huge love of pretty much any kind of second hand store. It doesnt have anything to do with prices or selection really, I just love to see the interesting things that have made their way into the stores and make up stories about how they got there. I dont really have to hunt around to collect comics anymore (since I have access to them 24/7), so this kind of outing is great to satisfy my Collective Personality.
And Montreal? Pretty freakin great for that kind of thing.
We hit up four or five different spots. Some were record stores, some book stores and some were an awesome combination of both. Some comics were found, some records were bought and even a couple of art pieces fell into my lap. Some of the days finds:
-Records by Johnny Cash and The Pogues
-An original copy of Metallicas Garage Days: The $5.98 EP
-A copy of Punisher 2099 #2
The last two were the most fun things to stumble upon. I have been looking for that issue of Punisher 2099 since 1993. Not because its of any great significance, but because Ive always had issues #1 and #3, but have never read #2!
The Metallica record was a great find as well. Ive seen some re-issues of the all-covers EP that the band put out in 1987 to initiate Jason Newsted into the band, but Ive never come across an original copy!
I saw a ton of other stuff I would have liked to add to my acquisitions, but I was good and kept the spending to a minimum. I find these stores to be the most fun because the selection and items that they have are completely unpredictable. Some stores had no Metallica records, while others had entire sections.
Up next, I think maybe one of these to play my newfound treasures on.
