: huge sigh of relief :
The three weeks of work is done. Round two with Resto is under my belt. Wait, make that round three - I'd forgotten about that little week-long stint in June. Whichever one it is, I don't have to worry about doing it again until mid July. Fuck... just saying that fills me with a cool flood of relief.
I will miss the good times with Nate, though. We invented a game today that's a cross between horseshoes and lawndarts, played only with tape. I lost miserably, but didn't care at all. I was actually a bit bummed when the photo team came out to tell us that it was a wrap.
I'd almost forgotten how much more fun it is to make up games like that. It totally reminded me of the stupid, awesome games that I used to make up and play with Shawn, way back in the day before we were old enough to drive. We'd spend all weekend and every day after school playing elaborate games of h.o.r.s.e., making up new rules as we went along, until after a few years our game was so complicated and elaborate that only we could understand it. It became a sort of Calvinball. Our Calvinball. When the sweltering Kansas summers finally forced us indoors we'd turn up the air conditioner (until his mom caught us and made us turn it back down) and spend all day in his bedroom, turning our stir-crazy intofunny-as-hell. We'd record songs on his boombox. Sometimes I'd stay the night just so that we could finish them. We came up with our own version of rock-paper-scissors that had over 40 different hand symbols (but I can't remember whether "Snoopy running away from home" beat "the flying rubber mallet"). My parents stopped worrying about where I'd be after a couple of years. They just called Shawn's when they wanted me home. His mom started referring to me as the goyim son she'd never had.
Wow. I'd had no intention of waxing nostalgic, but there you have it. I really miss those days. Today was fucking great because, for a little while at least, I felt something like what I used to feel like, way back when, before cars and girlfriends drove a wedge between me and the best friend that I've ever had.
Here's to good times.

You look so cute all shorn and squeaky clean. Think I'll join you in bed now.

Ten days is a long time.
