i've been busy. fucking busy. stupid busy. here's a bit of what's happened to me in the last week:
1) there was some really strange drama on saturday night involving a friend of mine who'd had an absolutely shit day. she called from outside my house, half-crying and asking if i could please hang out for a while. she was drunk, and her car was crunched (unrelated items, thankfully). i ended up taking her to her house, where she promptly took some anti-anxiety medication and passed out. after making sure that she was still breathing, i put her to bed. there's some other drama here, but it's her drama and it's too personal for me to write about here. let's just say that at midnight i was crawling into my own bed, and by 2:30am i was looking for blankets so that i could sleep on her couch. strange night. we had a good talk in the morning, though. i think she's gonna be alright. that girl needs to be a bit pickier about who she hangs out and makes friends with.
2) my kid sister had her first baby on monday! she's a little 7 pounder, and her name is alaina. i haven't seen pictures of the baby yet, but i just talked to my sister today, and she's doing really well. she had her baby in a hospital, and doctors discovered at the last minute that the baby was breech. no one at the hospital was willing to attempt a breech delivery, so megan's only remaining option was to undergo cesarean section, which she did - and came through like a champ. her description of the epidural-type procedure was enough to make me wanna curl up into a ball and shake. holyfuckingcrap.
3) i'm spending a lot of time writing and recording these days, but still not nearly as much as i need or would like to. because of this, i'm re-evaluating the ways i spend my time so that i devote more of myself to these songs.
4) a very old friend is coming to visit me in a week. it's gonna be a bit ont the odd side... he and i have sort of drifted apart in a lot of ways. we just lead such different lives... and on different coast, too. in fact, we've barely spoken in the last two years. i have no idea what prompted this sudden visit, but i expect that i'll soon find out.
5) i'm about to begin some serious tattoo work. the drawings for my left sleeve piece/idea are just about done, and it's looking like i'll be starting work on it within two weeks. i'm happy but nervous. maybe i'll come back here when it's done and reactivate my account by posting new pics.
6) i had one of the most embarassing moments of my life (so far) two days ago:
jason, my friend/downstairs neighbor, just recently got the test pressings back for a record that he's been working on for months and months and months now. he was excited to have me hear it as i was to listen to it... and as i stood in his doorway, thanking him for letting me borrow the record for an evening, i thought that i was holding the disk so that the sleeve's opening was safely at the top - but it wasn't. i felt a strange movement in my hand as the record slipped out of the sleeve and fell to the ground. it landed perpendicular to the pavement and broke with a sickening crunch. i just stood there staring at it. jason hadn't even registered what had happened until i said, "oh god. please, jason - tell me that wasn't your only test pressing."
(turned out it wasn't - he had another, but it's still sealed. he was really good about it, and tried to get me to take the other test pressing so that i could finally listen to the stuff he'd done, but i told him that i'd just wait until the single comes out in three weeks.)
