it seems that my old resume just wasn't all that great. i thought, at the time that i made it, that it was just fine. i knew that i could have said more about the restaurants i'd worked at and the things i accomplished there, but i thought that it'd be better to save that for the interviews. i mean, of course i'd get the interviews, right?
wrong. i got nuthin'. the one call that i did end up getting was a result of who i knew, not what i'd put in my resume.
so this time, i thought that maybe i'd do things a little differently. i spent a day completely revamping my resume; new format, new font, and loads more information. i listed everything that i'd ever done worth mentioning.
it felt weird - like i was tooting my own horn maybe just a bit too loudly - and i ended up with a two page resume, coverletters, and a letter of recommendation from my old boss and head chef. more like a resume packet, really - but the way i figured it was this; since most places haven't called me back, all they ever really learn of me is what they get from my resume - so i might as well say as much as i can in there...
so i did. and i liked the way it looked, too - but what i didn't expect was the radically different response i got: out of the three places i visited yesterday, the first immediately scheduled an interview with me for monday, the second called me an hour after i'd left the place, scheduling an interview with me for today, and the manager at the third place told me that although they technically weren't hiring at that time, i should stop back by soon for some drinks with she and the staff and talk more about it then.
so that's way more than i'd hoped for or expected - and i'll take it. feels fucking awesome.
