It's so weird how people are now changing the core of their religion to defeat science.
Take the new form of Creationism.
Lots of science teachers in the united states are quitting their jobs right now because they are forced to teach that 'humans are far too complex to not be created by a higher being'.
What a victory for the Christian Right, this must be. It seems like less and less of the bible is being beleived in, just so the faith can still exist.
It angers me to know that in America, Evoloution has been singled out, so that on textbooks they now have stickers that state that evoloution is just an idea, and should be taken as an unproven opinion.
Lets take a look at what american kids are learning now.
Creationism states:
That the earth and the moon is 4004 years old (approx).
That the universe was created in 7 days.
That humanity began with Adam and then Eve, a garden, and a TALKING SNAKE. A FREAKING TALKING SNAKE!
(I especially like how all of mans problems are to be blamed on women, thanks to this story as well, btw)
That in the year 2000, all the good people are going to accend to heaven and leave the sinners to burn on Earth.
I seem to remember something about the sun revolving the earth at the centre of the universe as well in there....
Science states:
Evoloution is caused by Natural Selection and survival of the fittest. That all animals on earth are related in some form, and our ancesters can be traced back. Humans and Jellyfish are cousins, although distant.
The earth and the moon are many billion years old, thanks to dinosaur bones, carbon dating, dust collection, fossils, and from what we know about the lifespan of a star.
Snakes can't talk.
Monkies turned into homo habilus which became homo erectus until the homo sapiens we know and love today came around to cut us off in traffic.
The earth is on the outside of the milky way, and it revolves around the sun.
According to Kirk Cameron, I am a sinner, yet I wasn't killed during Y2k
OK, now I should say that I don't see anything wrong with concept of religion.
What I hate to see children being taught to ignore facts, and to trust opinion. To be told, don't investigate, or learn for yourself.
The evidence towards evoloution is overwhelming because it is true.
I statistic I heard on PBS the other day was '30% of the people that voted for George Bush in the recent election believed that there were nuclear weapons found in Iraq'.
The evidence has shown that this is not true, but people's faith is so strong that they've brushed logic aside. Thats dangerous.
Dangerous is a situation where a person says 'I just know that I am right, and you are wrong, and my faith is all I need.'
There is too much of that going on in the world now, and it needs to stop.
/so glad I live in canada so I can rant like this
