So a little over a month ago I was browsing through the cds in Rasputin in SF, and I noticed this guy browsing near me that I thought I recognized. I wasn't sure if it was him at first until I noticed him drumming on his legs. Sure enough, I go up to him and say, "you're Taylor Hawkins, right?" He replies, "Yeah. I am." One of the single best moments of my life, I just happen to bump into one of my all-time favorite drummers from my all-time favorite band. What are the chances? Anyways we end up talking about everything from Foo Fighters (he actually asks my opinions and everything about the albums and whatnot) to his side project Taylor Hawkins & The Coattail Riders (saying they have a show in SF in November, turns out it's 21 & over only and I don't turn 21 until December, damn!) to the fact that I'm a sound engineering student (I ask about how they recorded the Coattail Riders album and we both agree that it would be cool for me to engineer for him sometime, even at Studio 606) and he's even a vinyl collector (like myself) so we talk about that a bit too. In the end I go and buy one of their albums again (after he goes through all the singles I don't have, continually saying each one sucks, lol) and get it signed by him. Simply awesome.
