16 years ago today, the world was blessed by the birth of Hannah Rose Orton. A more beautiful, intelligent young woman you could not find, and the world is that much less special in her absence.

Think the quote was from "Princess Mononoke", but not sure? My internet fu has been slipping and the fact I haven't had time to watch movies lately really bums me out. Have a great weekend.smile

August has been a significant month for me for a fair share of my life. August 1998, the start of my senior year at Highland High, I walked into my sixth period creative writing class not knowing that soon I would become acquainted with a quiet girl named Sarah that wore Star Wars shirts and a pair of little boys' Darth Maul sneakers. Never would...

My sweet, sweet sister in law, Hannah Rose Orton, died unexpectedly Wednesday night. My wife, Sarah, is in hysterics, having basically raised her. I've personally known her since she was 3 years old. I've watched her grow into a beautiful young woman, and it truly feels like I've lost a daughter.

My fondest memory of Hannah is also my first. I'd gone over to Sarah's...

Under the harvest moon,
When the soft silver
Drips shimmering
Over the garden nights,
Death, the gray mocker,
Comes and whispers to you
As a beautiful friend
Who remembers.

Under the summer roses
When the flagrant crimson
Lurks in the dusk
Of the wild red leaves,
Love, with little hands,
Comes and touches you
With a thousand memories,
And asks you
Beautiful, unanswerable questions.

That's a wonderful story. It gets easier, as I'm sure you know. Just remember her in that light, man.

My father in-law is a dick.

Some back story:
Sarah, my wife, has always had a fairly strained relationship with her father, Mark,. He's been habitually using drugs, lives out of his van & blames any problems he has on everyone but himself. We've done what we can to help him maintain a relationship with his daughters, even making fliers for his in "home guitar...

I just saw Watchmen last night, and I was very impressed by this film. It managed to stay very faithful to the book while adding it's own spin to the material. First the good:

Jeffery Dean Morgan IS the Comedian. He seemed to step right off the page, every amoral inch of him. My favorite part of the comic (IT'S NOT A FUCKING GRAPHIC NOVEL!...

Hi new friend! I too admire your Watchmen comments. I was pissed off by ZakSmith's reply to you, although maybe he was trying to defend the first guy you replied to (bakerrob). But I see your point about the comic inherently being better than the movie. Also, I get the comic/graphic novel thing but I'm still confused about where the term 'trade paperback' comes in? Thoughts? (Please reply on my blog instead of on yours - thanks)
_risforrad:
Ok, so Watchmen is a comic that lots of people now read as a TBP, yes?

It's my birthday today and I really don't know how to feel about that. I'm 28. That means that I've been able to be tried as an adult for ten years, and that is just surreal. I really don't feel a day past 22 (my wife would say it's closer to 10, but that's what I get for having a transformers fixation).
