Aaaahhhh...fresh haircut

Yesterday, the school district closed my old elementary school due to low enrollment. It made me reminisce about those times. There was lots of good & bad, but the thing that sticks in my mind the most was my very first crush. A beautiful blonde girl named Barbara. We were both in ELP together (Extended Learning Program, for the 'gifted' children), and we played cello in the school orchestra. I loved the attention she seemed to give me in the schoolyard. All these years later, I can still feel the rush of happiness when a friend of hers told me that she liked me.
But then, I was painfully shy, so I never did anything about it. She eventually lost interest, which was hard. Even harder was when her family moved away in the summer after 4th grade, and I never saw her again. But I still remember her...there's something about those preteen crushes that I find so fascinating and hopeful. It wasn't about sex...we hadn't even hit puberty. It must have been love. I remind myself of that when I have my doubts as to whether it really exists.

Who was your first crush? Still see him/her?
