Ugg, so i have not had more than a little bit of beef in a very long time, and now i have eaten about a pound of burgers. Almost made me throw, i am having some real trouble keeping my guts where they belong, no more beef for me i think for a long time.
So i just beat Heros of Might and Magic : Dark Messiah and i must say that i was rather disappointed. The gameplay was ok i guess, but the spells were almost useless, too much mana cost involved and too great of recharge times to make it a viable combat option, not to mention the fact that you cannot have a spell and a weapon equiped at the same time, like in Morrowind.
This follows a string of games that i thought were less than stellar, like Oblivion, great disappointment. After morrowind, i was expecting something spectacular. The graphics were good but the gameplay was just shit, bad guys that level up as you do: WTF, 40th level brigands and 40th level skeltons, lame. I cannot sing the praises of Morrowind enough, it was engaging and a pleasure to play, ive got hundreds of hours in and have just barely beaten the main, house, and guild quests, and have not even started on the expansions, excellent game.
Moving on to NWN2, pretty good gameplay, not as good as NWN1, but still, an engagin story line, if a bit linear. I will be buying the expansions, eventually. I have played it twice, once with a Wood Elf Ftr7/Weapon Master7/Rog6 and once as a FTR/Weapon master. Maybe next time i will try a wizard or a monk, though monks do not translate well to electronic DnD, especially with the point buy system. Oh well, a challenge is good. I was very disappointed to find that the Sun Soul guy for the stronghold would not teach Khelgar anything.
On that topic, i think that Khelgar is my second favorite charactor, more akin to me in temperment and outlook, Neeshka being my favorite. I guess we all have an insecure child inside of all of us.
I would give these three games:
6/10 Dark Messiah
5/10 Oblivion
9/10 NWN2
Azhure, my cat, did not like to be put on my cold feet, too bad, she was nice and warm.
