first firefly seen. summer officially arrived. thousands of little lights going off wild in trees flashing 'look at me! you know i'm a great mate by how bright i shine! look!' and they do and their little lights sneak away to the dark together.
i miss geckos though and their tails slipping behind crooks and crannies and their teeny little chirps to each other and them catching roaches and knocking them the hell out slamming them hard against a piece of wood. true, it sounds gruesome, but in the middle of the jungle night it sounds like the ghost of a friend come to visit, which is nice.

There's a gecko tribe of at least a dozen individuals living in the walls and the roofs of the building i live in... (they belong to a rather small species: max 10 cm long; people here call them "tarentes")... now that it's summer, at night my working place's lights attract mosquitoes and there's usually one gecko that comes hunting them... while it roams (on the outside) the large window beneath my drawing table it shows me its white scaly belly and the soles of its strange-looking feet...
