Been over a month since my last post. Let's update I guess:
Vacation in Irvine -- A friend and I went to see the King Tut exhibit at the LA County Museum (did the audio tour, too, was pretty neat). We also went to Magic Mountain. It was a Tuesday, so the lines were really short. That was a lot of fun.
We took the train there and back. It's a 35 or so hour trip each way (give or take). The sleeper car was pretty nice. The tickets cost a lot more (more than flying, even) but all food is included (except alcohol). If we flew we'd have to pay for two more nights in a hotel, and for food. The food, by the way, was restaurant quality. It's not airplane-tv-dinner style. It's served on real plates with real utensils by a real waiter.
Riding the train was so refreshing compared to flying -- I don't know if I can convince myself to ever fly again after the airports increased hassle(imeansecurity!). The train, moving pretty slow, helps set a good pace for your vacation. No rushing, no arriving at the station 2 hours early just to experience additional hassles. It's a form of travel that is not simply a means to an end.
Cat -- Moved my cat, Rainy, into the house. She actually seemed to enjoy part of the car ride, for once. she's taken to the house really well. She's actually started to sleep in my bed again, something she stopped doing where I lived before (I suspect because of the other cats).
That's it for the update. Stay tuned for more monotony.
