We saw the puppy today at the animal hospital. The doctor says that he's doing remarkably well, so I attribute that to A. His lab dog tenacity B. His love for his mommy and daddy and C. Your good thoughts, vibes, and prayers. Please, keep sending them his way, because he's not out of the woods yet.
He's still not allowed to eat or drink- they're keeping him pumped full of saline and VERY strong antibiotics. He's also still EXTREMELY contagious- we had to spray our entire bodies (even parts of us like legs and back that didn't even touch Dax) when we were leaving, so we wouldn't potentially transmit the disease to other puppies.
He was very happy to see us. He got up and started wagging his little tail and licking us. He was pawing at us, and he even started chewing a little on my hand when I was petting him. When we were leaving, he got this look on his face like, "Hey guys, what about me?" and started trying to chew out his IV. (He looks so little and tiny and pathetic hooked up to all those medicines in the IVs). So, he's got determination to come back home. The vet says if he continues his improvement at this rate, we'll probably get to have him home by Wednesday...which seems SO far away, but at the same time, it's a lot earlier than other puppies.
And, we found out that since we adopted him from the shelter, he's got insurance for 30 days from the date of his adoption. He's covered for up to $500 worth of medical treatment for any disease or problem. That means we probably will only end up paying very little if anything. It's a relief, but I would've paid whatever it took to get my little baby puppy home.
Now we have to begin the sterilization of the house. We have to literally spray everything down with bleach and water. We have had to get rid of all his favorite stuffed toys (anyone know if the Disney Store still sells "Scrump" dolls from Lilo and Stitch? It is one of his favorites and we have to get rid of it.) I'm also trying to come up with a bleach/water concoction strong enough to get the job done, yet calm enough not to bleach spots in our furniture. I think I may just douse it all a few times with Lysol. We're going to have the most sterile house EVER. It's going to be a lot of work, but I just don't want to get him home only for him to get sick again, you know?
On another note...I got some "Baby I'm so sorry you didn't sleep well and are so worried and upset" lovin today. It was niiiice. And then, we took my parents to Famous Dave's for some ribs and beer, which they loved. And then, we saw War of the Worlds.
Talk about an intense movie. I think there was 60 seconds in the entire movie that WASN'T pulse pounding, intense action. It was very good, though. I hadn't seen the original, only read the book, and it happened the way I'd pictured it in my mind's eye. See it on the big screen for full effect.
Send more positivity Dax's way for me, ya'll!
Love and hugs!!

I hope Dax can enjoy his puppyhood again real soon... you better take gagillions of pictures when he gets back, too. I can't wait to see him.
