This is what I get for drinking absinthe before bed time. Enjoy. biggrin

She wasnt sure when she decided to fuck the Devil.

There could really only be one sort of option at that point, and she knew it--knew it far beyond any shadow of any time, any fractional doubt. The Devil was going to be hers. Hell be damned.

He entered her room just before...

Ah, been a while.... biggrin

Shadows moved and, in their density, he could see shapes and forms, ephemeral discordances that beckoned, reached, cursed and hurt. He moved through the doorway and found a small chamber beyond. Forged from the very stone, the chamber was cold and damp, lichen hanging from its ruined walls, rusted iron rings set at disconcerting intervals. The chamber was lit by a...

...actually, you probably did need to tell me that. I'm always interested in what other writers have to say about this sort of thing, and your input is greatly appreciated.

I hope that you'll favour us with more of your "sketches" as time goes on - and should we do a fundraiser in your neck of the woods, you will be the first to know. tongue

(Since you're out that way, though, what about hitting up the Prom? I've always heard good stuff about it.)
radiofrank:
I do it because I care, haha.

...and you should come! It is the mother of all parties. tongue

School starts up again next week. I'm probably not as prepared as I should be, but I've still got time (the first week starts on Tuesday, so I'm only teaching once--on Wednesday--and that's just the intro/calculus review, which I'm prepared for). My first actual lecture won't be until the week after next. Meh.

Been doing some work on my current novel project--which has been under...

Wow, that sounds like it's going to be one hell of a book. Can I get an autographed copy when it gets published? biggrin
rk:
I think I knew that, but it is useful to hear it from another. It has been on my mind all day today, and I think perhaps I'd be better off not going to her until I can somehow influence her to help herself, or she does it on her own.

How'd the wednesday class go?

Happy Holidays, everyone!

The semester ended fairly well, if I do say so. The last week has been kind of quiet--now I just have X-mas and New Years and prepping for my physics class next semester (I'll be teaching calculus-based E&M, waves, optics and, if time permits--which I doubt--a little relativity and one-dimensional quantum). I've already begun going through the text book and trying to...

In an odd twist of mixing my scientific/mathematical background with my...shall we say, not-scientific background, I've taken the position of science adviser to the Coastal Organization for the Research of Potentially Supernatural Events. Or C.O.R.P.S.E. How could I resist with that name? biggrin

Anyway, I'm actually pretty excited about this. Far too many academics shrug off things that are not 'mainstream' science and although...

Thanks a lot for your so sweet comment on A Christmas Dream, darling, that's really sweet!

Well, long time no commenty.

School and work have been keeping me busy. The physics class is going well, I guess. There've been quite a few bumps in the road, but I'm learning. In fact, I'm teaching the calculus-based optics/E & M class next semester so, well, there goes my winter break, but the class'll be fun (read: challenging).

I guess I've officially picked my...

Optics? E & M? Those were two of my least favourite subjects, haha. biggrin

I'm sure that you'll do fine. Considering that your physics class is going on so well, I have no reason to doubt that this will also go well for you.

I look forward to hearing more about your research topic in the near future!

First week done. Not bad, if I say so myself. The functional analysis homework only took me two days to complete and both lecture sessions for physics went off pretty well. I'm happy. I really like the opportunity to spent basically three hours, twice a week, expounding on physics and generally making a fool of myself.

Case in point: I opened my second lecture with...

Firstly, happy (very belated) birthday! I hope that you had a wonderful day.

I'm glad to hear that your lectures are going well - and I completely agree with your decision to more or less ditch the textbook. I haven't the faintest idea why any physics text (especially one for non-physics types) would teach the subject in that order.

I'm most interested to hear about what you're going to do next, especially since your class is no longer "theoretical". biggrin
rk:
Thanks man, I think I'll be up and about today already. I just feel like I got kicked in the gut a couple times.

How are things back in SB?

How are the lectures going now?

School starts Monday. Had the first of two department meetings tonight (the TA meeting--the actual, full department meeting is Monday). I spent the last three days working out a nice syllabus (I wouldn't have worried about it but I'm the first TA to teach a Physics class at my school--which is relatively new...ish--and I had to include things that I didn't have to for my...

Okay, so, worked the Summer Session at City College and that was nice(ish).

I finally received formal notification (from the Provost's office no less) that I will definitely be teaching physics next semester--which is good sent I've spent an inordinate amount of time this summer prepping for that class.

Got a new laptop on order--time to upgrade since having an old laptop and an old...

Congrats on starting the novel, on getting a new laptop, and on finding out that you'll be teaching physics! Speaking of which, will you be teaching a particular branch of the subject, or will you just be doing a more generalized course?

I was kinda surprised that we started talking about Gala (even though it was only for a few minutes), but some very interesting ideas were thrown about. We'll see what comes of them.

...and yes, you should make a point of coming up for it one of these years. It's the Mother Of All Parties, haha.

I've also done a tiny bit of reading about this earthquake of yours. Glad to see that all is (mostly) well down there. I'd probably have started crapping my pants. wink
radiofrank:
...of course it was unintentional! After all, the fact that my laptop is a pretty good gaming machine is also quite a coincidence. wink

The Dark Knight is well worth the wait, to be sure. I really enjoyed it.

Over-due for an update? Probably.

I just finished spending the last few days working through the first three chapters of a quantum physics textbook in preparation for a talk I'm giving on Wednesday.

My head hurts.

There is a chance that I'll get to teach an Intro Physics class next semester. I'm really hoping it happens. Don't get me wrong, teaching Intermediate Algebra is fun and it would definitely be valuable for me to teach it again but...physics! Hell yeah.

Plus, my advisor will be teaching the second section of the same physics class, which would be very cool since we're...

(Hmm...haven't had one of these for a while....)

God spoke, saying: "Let there be silicon nightmares."

Jesus spoke, saying: "Forgive me, Father."

The Devil spoke, saying: "Screw that, J. Let there be sado-masochistic mind/soul-fucks the likes of which mortals have never seen!"

God smiled.
Jesus sighed.
The Devil laughed.

Anubis, heretofore silent, shook his head and left the room.
