Another semester begins, hard to believe there are only two left to go. This one is going to be damn crazy it seems. five courses, one of which is my honours essay, and 15 - 20 hours of work a week. the courses all seem interesting at the very least, well with on exception... the history of the atlantic provinces from 1500 -> doesn't seem very appealing but the others are all very cool indeed =) One is on Religiona nd the Problem of Evil, which, although it is a 9:00 am class, looks to be very thought provoking. Historical Methods, looks ot be very interesting as well, learning how historians do their thing, though perhapsa little late in coming for me =) but still fun. Religion and Pop Culture is most definitely going to be a good time, and something that will round out the day quite nicely. We will be looking at the religious depicitons / elements of Buffy, the Simpsons, Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Star Trek and Star Wars.... perfect for the geek in me =) and rather than havoing to write a paper for the course, we have to create a web page for our topic, which I think will be tremendously exciting! I already have my topic, at least I htink I do, if I can find enough material to back it up - The Treatment of Myth and Religion in Neil Gaimen's The Sandman. So far the web sources are great, but I am worried about the academic sources... still it will be fun to do =)
The honours essay itself should prove to be challenging and keep my actively interested at the same time. Shamanism in the Xia and Shang Dynasties - some of the sources are great so far, some are... well as dry as the bones that were used in the divination. However, it should all work out well =)
On the home front, things are good, but poor. This being a poor student thing is getting pretty tiring... but perseverance is apart of this I guess. At least next year, they will start paying me to go to school, rather than me having to borrow more to do so. If nothing else, I will stop the downward spiral then =)
It looks more and more like I will be going to Laurier for my MA, though I have found another advisor here, and Queen's is still on the table. Applications start to go out in the next couple of weeks, as do scholarship apps. Basically, the choice will be made by funding, wherever gives me the most money to attend will be the deciding factor. Laurier holds a great deal of attraction because it will mean setting up shop in Kitchener for a decent period of time. Queen's is a one year program, and would mean moving on to Kitchener / Waterloo in just a single year. But it is a great program and a great school. so we shall see, living in Kingston for a year would not be terribly disappointing either =)
Jill and I are doing well, and things are good in the apartment =) so once school settles in, everything should smooth out =)and with any luck, and a scholarship or two more, things should not be so tight financially...
