To answer your question in your post asking why Laurel is high, it's because of a couple of reasons:
1. You got Bowie right at your back door which, as you may know, is not only up and coming but expensive as HELL to live in,
2. Montgomery County is very close to you also
3. DC is not very far, and seeing as how now-a-days people will drive from as far as Delaware or PA to work in DC, Laurel is PRIME real-estate; so are all other counties north and west of DC. (Also some of VA too).
I used to live in laurel so i remember it. I went back about 4 years ago to look at an apartment and they wanted me to pay $900 for efficiency!

Laurel is cheaper than Columbia, for the most part... my first apartment was a one bedroom - 600 sq ft and it was 1100$ a month.

so i work in laurel now, its almost an hr drive down 95 (longer in traffic) but its good pay, and i know everyone i work with from working for the company before, god do i hate long drives, hopefully ill be moving soon, if i can find somewhere decient in that area :/
