I don't know what possessed me to do it, but I did it. May the good lord take pity on me.
Maybe it was the excitement of finally getting my official acceptence latter from NDSU, maybe it was because I've had the same look for two years straight now, which is rather strange for me. Maybe the constant complaints of my students finally got to...

*clears throat* Sorry about that, I was just a small bit excited. I'll try to say it again and be a little calmer *takes a deep breath*

Gah! Damn, I did it again. I can't help it I suppose. I shall have to beg your forgiveness.
*calms down again* The weird thing is,...

Congratulations on the acceptance!
I understand the "not getting it" thing on music others seem to get som much from.
I'd recommend some live Bob Marley, preferably video , like the boot I mentioned, but there's an album possible called "On The Bus" or something similar I remember that was quite good.
For particular songs, I'd recommend Kinky Reggae and Redemption Song (The latter of which I semi-regularly perform)
Also, compare his original "I Shot The Sheriff" to the later version by Clapton. As much as I love Clapton's work, the Marley version, in my opinion, smokes his (no pun overtly intended).
And Bob's guitar work is quite soulful (despite the brevity of his solos).
Wow, you said you're nearing the light at the end of the tunnel on your Epic Poem, huh?
Can't wait.

CONGRATS!
It was my first and only (knock wood) time fainting. I seem to be ok.

You know, its funny; I've lived my life long enough to realize that my interests and moods have a tendency of running in cycles. Cycles strong enough that I can tell you, with some certanty, what my interests will be at a certain time, up to a year in advance. This isn't exact, of course, but there are general trends. October, for instance, is usually...

I go through mood shifts as well, but I never know where mine are headed.

Wow - hadn't heard anyone mention Jean Rithcie in years - she still does shows from time to time. Saw her with doc Watson once when I was maybe 12 - wonderful experience. I missed her last month when she came to nearby Mt. Dora for a Dulcimer and Autoharp festival.
We got back the purloined recording studio equipment, at least most of it, but no one was arrested and the drummer's Zildjan heads are still gone and ALL of the 18 or so hours of music we recorded were wiped off the drive, so no album is to be finished. It sticks inmy craw that I know who's behind the burglary it but can't prove it.
Played at a festival this weekend with the band I may join, Park Bench Mutations. They do a mix of predominantly acoustic music with marimbas and vibes even as well as improv stand-up comedy. Got to shake hands with my most favouritest guitarist in the Multiverse, Jorma Kaukonen (speaking of musical folklore; Man,m I'd give almost anything to attend his music seminars at his Fur Peace Ranch in Ohio where you eat home-cooked meals and learn from and jam with various famous guitarists). I played solo at first, then the PBMs joined in - I originally was called up onstage, ostensibly to sit in with them, but they thoght it funny to get md in front of the huge crowd and then exit the stage, leaving me alone to play. I survived - I put the setlist somewhere here - I think in samling's journal maybe.
I just got back from canoeing and am on my way to catch another set - not sure who's playing on what stage at this point.
I love the dark side of folk music. A lot of Celtic/Welsh and other UK roots music is dark (not just John Barleycorn) and many "popular" American ballads (eg Pretty Peggy-O) are dark-themed, and this weekend there have been a lot of them played here.
Gotta go - we're approaching the music park now.

I thought that I'd update this today after having a rather good day; breaking my long tradition of writing journals only on days which sucked and on which I needed to vent. Work went pretty well, I survived and left the building in a state of non-mental, physical and spiritual exaustion; which is even more of an accomplishment when you realize that daylight savings time...

You do so much look alike.

oh man, I hate undersea conventions. It's never worth the dive there.
And you do look a lot like your father, esp. compared with your profile pic at the top (but having similar glasses and facial hair will do that, I guess).

This is most likely going to be a long entry: proceed at your own risk
I've been doing a lot of thinking since I wrote my last journal entry here, and I'm coming to a strong conclusion, one which I've been doing my best to avoid for some time; I'm a very blessed person. For the past few years I really have been focusing merely...

I have a confession to make, and I really hate to say this but I think I have to: I'm an arrogant jack-ass.
Now, before you jump to my defence and say that I'm being hard on my self, let me explain a bit; My Mum and I get along well. I almost hate to say this, because when ever a young man admits that...

I think that each generation does feel that it is wiser than the last. Certainly more enlightened, anyway.
I only know a handful of Woody Guthrie songs so I can't comment on his resemblance to Mark Twain. Some country western singer with a clever way with words would fit the bill, I think.

Well I'm currently getting over a nasty flu that his me yesterday morning at about 3. I honestly don't think that I've been this sick for many years; and, I can now tell you that one of the few downsides to living by yourself is is that when you are sick there is no one to help you out or even feel sorry for you....

I am definitely against being sick. the particular strain of flu I tend to get starts with strong bouts of dizziness. The first time it happened it was so strange I walked to the hospital emergency room, and by the end I was almost so disoriented I couldn't turn the corner to enter the building.
But I'm much better now.

hmmm, I was considering Mark Twain for Springsteen (great minds n all), but I think maybe Steinbeck because he's more hard hitting and less clever.
Just found out today that I got a rejection letter from one of the three schools I applied at for Grad School. I'm feeling very depressed right now. I have school work I need to do for my classes tomorrow, and the thought of even looking at school work just fills me with loathing.
Its weird; I've never considered myself a person prone to Depression...

I'm sorry things didn't work out for you.
I am feeling much better today than I did yesterday. You see; quiting smoking is hard, dreadfully hard, and its made even harder when your cigarette substitute (cigars) which you payed 100 dollars for do not show up on time because they have been sitting for 5 days in Anchorage. Its enough to put even more stress and a rather stressed out individual.
So, upon...

Good for you for quitting smoking. I wish my boyfriend would!
I can't really talk about work on here, because of certain legal issues. It sucks. But I can say that its been a long week. We suffered from a wind storm last night which, I was sure, was going to knock my house over. Power went out about 2 PM and didn't come back until past 7; then it went out again several hours later...

I'm about to shave my head, but I'm leaving the facial hair.
If I was in Alaska, I'd have though twice about shaving anything, though.
