Haven't updated in a while.

Haven't really had much to say.

To sum it all up, at my current point in life, I've come to two (probably temporary) conclusions:

1) Nothing is ever remotely right unless I do it myself. I should never count on anyone. (Which extends to so-called "friendships," really.)

2) There's no point in bothering to care about someone who seems to...

Don't sound so surprised. There aren't many people in the world that belong to our tribe, are there? smile

The problem with trying to explain post-emotional tribalism (or anything else) in metaphorical terms is that you create two obstacles: some people aren't going to understand the symbolism, and some people are going to confuse the symbolism for the object itself. That's why somebody has to find one universal, absolute, objective, irrefutable truth. (Of course, some people will even refuse to believe that, and there's just nothing you can do about them.) If everyone-- or even just some people-- could all come to understand that they all have the one most basic thing in common, they could quit being so badly divided by their differences.

I'm feeling a little better about life right now. I told her how I felt, and while it's not going anywhere, it hasn't affected the friendship, and the possibility might still be open for some future when her life calms down. But at least I got it off my chest.

On a completely different note, I've spent (roughly, give or take an hour) 20 hours...

Apparently I'm quite good at fucking things up. It's really quite a talent. There's just something wonderful about going from a snowball's chance in hell to getting a complete DIV/0 error about something one desires this fucking much.

What's that saying again? Oh yeah... Life's a bitch. Then you die.

Well, on the "bright side" (or dismal, depending on how you look at it),...

Please don't go away... please?
No one's ever stuck with me for so long before...
And if you leave, if you leave... I remember things better with you, I do, look... P. Sherman, 42... 42... I remember it, I do, it's there, I know it is, because when I look at you, I can feel it. And I look...

yes. i still can't trust her. it's like the song "with or without you" by U2... i never quite understood that song until now... but because of my naivette, i always see the good in people, and i'm going to try to give myself to her, and see what happens. i have lived in a world of pain longer than i can remember... so i have nothing to lose. at least, that's what i'll tell myself... and hope and pray that my heart and soul don't get rent into so many tattered pieces...

Copied from a post elsewhere:
I really wish that I could say I was unhappy with what I'm doing right now. That sounds strange, I know. I just wish I had an excuse to fucking go home and relax. Instead I sit in lab and do homework, grading, or research for 14-18 hours a day, sometimes more, get little to no sleep, and neglect the...

the feeling of accomplishment... no matter how much shit you must wade through, no matter what tortuous hell you must endure, the idea that you have done something great is amazing beyond words. i'm glad that you've reached something like that biggrin but as to the rough week, i'm sorry to hear about that. hopefully things start looking up. i am starting to have a rough week now, so maybe you are getting the good vibes from my week wink

Well THAT was a fun week.

Tuesday I got to the science center at 7:45am. I left at 8:30pm. Wednesday. Yes, damn near 37 hours later. No, I didn't sleep in between. Yes, it was fucking worth it. Came home, slept 14 hours, and was fired up all day yesterday. smile Of course, the only reason that I knew it was Thursday yesterday is because I...

Wow. I haven't posted in a WHILE. Kinda hid in the shadows in the groups, too, and was so busy that I damn near missed some sets going up!

Right now I'm trying to relax. Of course, my version of relaxing is listening to Rammstein and restraining the urge to break shit. smile

I'm relaxing because I came down with a serious case of exhaustion yesterday......

Today's stats:
Amount of time spent in class: 2.5 hours
Amount of time spent in a meeting: just under 1 hour
Amount of time spent in the research lab: 8 hours (spent the last hour and a half, from 10:30 to midnight, bullshitting with Jay and Ken though)

Most enjoyable time spent today: the vast majority of the 8 hours in lab

Also, Professor Zuman...

Burning bridges roast the best marshmallows.

...as a side note, if you understand that as intended, congratulations. You've taken a major step towards actually living a live you can be proud of.
doctashock:
I get it. I forget where I heard it first, but I remember the meaning behind it. (I'm talking about both of those obscure references by the way. Not just the first one.)
daevric:
Oh? I've never actually heard it before. Just said it in conversation when someone was talking about having burned all their bridges.

*wonders what the obscure references are, other than too obscure for me to notice*

I now officially work in the biggest CMP lab in the world.

Not only that, but one of the two people who built it from the ground up more or less told me yesterday that he wants me to take over his research when he leaves.

Of course, this all comes at a cost. I spent from 6:30pm until 10pm last night between the group...

In film school there was a lounge where students spent the night on a regular basis. I considered saving on the rent, putting all my things in storage and staying there for all the time I actually spent at home.

Congratulations though, sounds like you're moving into a pretty prestigious position. It will be well worth it in the end.

I just got in an accident. Three cars involved (though no one was hurt).

I have to leave for school in two days.

School, by the way, is 12 hours away.

I no longer have a car to take me there.
