Such an exciting Sunday evening...
Watching Doctor Zhivago (the PBS version) with a cat on my shoulder.

This version is a lot grittier than David Lean's. Lean must have cut a lot of the graphic scenes out, omitting whole chapters from Pasternak's novel.

I have a copy of "Crime & Punishment" sitting unread in my nightstand drawer...I'm in a tragic Russian epic sort of mood....

so there is another version (pbs movie?) of doctor zhivago beside the one with omar sharif? wait...i just googled dz and it looks like there's yet another version (remake?) out this year. hmmm. i need to get out more.

yeah, i'm definitely worrying way too hard about the quality of my stupid journal posts. i worry way too hard about most things. right now i'm worried about a little hairy spider that is skittering across my desk towards me.....

I know I'm jinxing (is that a word?) myself, but I really think I had a great interview today. It's not the greatest job in the world, but it pays far better than my current one, and...

Wait for it...

The office is across the street from my apartment. Three minutes from my front door!

How cool is that?? biggrin

Since Tuesday I've been helping a blind man in the office. He's taking a series of classes, and since his computer isn't working and we aren't equipped to provide adequate braile devices, I'm having to sit next to him seven hours a day to read to him from his textbook.

I'm not complaining...far from it! I enjoy spending time with him. He's extrordinarily intelligent...he can...

I love Portland.
Sometimes I wonder if it was worth the trouble of moving out here, and then I look around me and it becomes obvious.
What a beautiful city.

Just saw "Lost in Translation". Beautiful, funny, intelligent, romantic, surprising, Bill Murray.

Good picture. smile

Two weeks left until I head back to my job. God! I hate working (or supposedly working) for the federal government.
mad mad mad mad mad mad mad :mad

I remember relishing time off...especially in grade/high school
...waking up late, 11:00 Gilligans' Island reruns, laughing at the friends who still had to attend class.

I must be morphing into my father...I have to be doing something "constructive" all day.

Pathetic

I've become a parent...
I have a baby living under my couch. She wanders out occasionally to explore and eat. We had a brief bonding moment last night, but she still hasn't accepted me yet. I have to medicate her (eye drops, amoxicillin) morning and night which REALLY pisses her off.
Wish me luck.

hey-saw your kitty conundrum in the cats group and wanted to wish you luck...abandoned and feral cats are often more difficult, but any cat will hide out for a little while until she is sure she's safe...
just be patient with her (although having to medicate her makes it more important to be able to get ahold of her...)
Maybe you can try blocking off places that are difficult for you to reach her when she's hiding...
(shut doors to rooms with beds, or stick stuff under beds)
That way she can still hide, but you can also get to her when you have to.
(also careful with giving her milk if you do, give her a small amount because contrary to popular belief, it often upsets their stomachs and gives them messy poo.)

I have a theory. If anyone's interested...

I receive a lot of "chain" emails from friends. Lots of 'em...Have you ever noticed that at the end of the messages, the reader is usually advised to forward it off to five people or more. The reader is also told that fortune will fall upon those that forward the emails...

I have never sent one off. I...

about the kitten:

i think it would be best to isolate her in a place like the bathroom. put food and water and a litter box in there (does she use the box yet?) maybe leave the door open at night. that way, when you're sleeping she can come out and explore. don't try and force her to come out or pet her. she'll come around when she feels safe. serious. they have to feel safe first. it might take awhile...a long while. but if you force her do be out or pet her when she's scared, she might not ever come out. i know this is what you're supposed to do with older cats, so it should be ok for a kitten. good luck!

I meet a friend who used to be a CLOSE friend, but who now is just an...well...an acquantance. She's married (happily), and I'm happy for her...but at the same time, it was very awkward. She's beautiful, kind, smart...perfect. But married!!!
