Once, a friend asked me an awful question: "Who are you?"
I told her then, and I believe that this is true now as well, that I am the living definition of a Peter Parker complex.
I know that on the outside I appear to be nerdy, geeky, socially inept. Heck, I am all of those things.
But underneath it all, I knew that there was a secret me. A Nerdy, geeky person person with the ability to always do the right thing, and to overcome every challenge. And, of course, to get the girl.
I've been frustrated, for as long as I can remember, at my inability to become that person. I have never found the right mask, the right tights, the right codename. I can't always do the right thing, the hard thing. My limitations are not built around the plot caveat that I must succeed.
My whole life I have been reaching out, hoping that someday I would wake up to learn that someone else had reached out to me in the dark of the night.
"Isn't it about time someone saved your life?"

But here's the catch, and it's true with our guy Spidey too. No good deed goes unpunished. So for all the good you do, you're probably just going to get more trouble for it. But it's not about you. It's about doing the right thing. When you've given up on rewards for being a good person, then they come to you.
