So my shortest ever journal entry gets me my most comments. Well fuck all y'all, I'll write as much as I want!
This morning, the lawnmower wouldn't start, so I set about trimming the lawn with a pair of garden shears. It was actually very serene and relaxing work in the sunshine, but it's gonna take forever: I got about one tenth of the way down the lawn...
I must stress that this isn't my lawnmower or even my lawn. I have been living for the past year in a house that I was looking after for some friends who've gone to Spain. The whole thing's been a fucking disaster and I can't wait to move out. Two more months and I'm outta here.
Then I listened to this:
'Stay on the streets of this town
And they'll be carving you up all right
They say you gotta stay hungry
Hey baby I'm just about starving tonight
I'm dying for some action
I'm sick of sitting 'round here trying to write this book
I need a love reaction
Come on now baby gimme just one look
You can't start a fire sitting 'round crying over a broken heart
This gun's for hire
Even if we're just dancing in the dark
You can't start a fire worrying about your little world falling apart
This gun's for hire
Even if we're just dancing in the dark'
- Bruce Springsteen, 'Dancing in the Dark' (like as if you didn't know)
'Dancing in the Dark' is one of my favourite songs of ALL TIME. Of ALL TIME.
I once read that Springsteen wrote it when his producer asked him for a hit and he had no idea what to write about, so he wrote a song about not knowing what to write a song about (hence the line 'you can't start a fire without a spark'). But somehow, in the process, he produced an immortal, international anthem of frustration and, yes, ennui.
Dunno what else to say - I love it.

I love the image of you calmly crawling or maybe bending and snipping (although crawling is better
