Laura Ingraham is loud, dumb, and dishonest.
NOTE: For those of you who don\'t know, Laura Ingraham is a right-wing \"reporter\" and radio show host who occasionally fills in for, among others, Bill \"the big, blubbering vagina\" O\'Reilly on The O\'Reilly Factor. In 2004, she \"moderated\" a \"debate\" between former head of the Christian Coalition Richard Reed, and Sam Harris, who\'s book had just been released. Harris is an author and scholar(his credentials are numerous) that I have an immense amount of respect for. She attempted to make Harris look spoiled and stupid, and succeeded only in making herself look pompous, childish, and biased(as usual). No doubt by legal obligation, Ingraham gave a plug to Harris\'s brilliant book, \"The End of Faith\", on the show. Retrospectively, I\'m pleased to say that \"The End of Faith\" went on to become a New York Times bestseller, won the 2005 PEN award for nonfiction, and is still selling. I would HIGHLY recommend it to anyone who enjoys reading, as well as its short follow up, \"Letter to a Christian Nation\".
One of Laura Ingraham\'s books can be purchased brand new, for $0.40, here: Highway Robbery
On with the rant...
Is it just me(it isn't), or does Laura Ingraham make Bill O\'Reilly seem fair, polite, and objective in comparison? How about soft-spoken?
I'm really not sure what goes through the mind of a person like Ingraham, but she seems driven by the idea that swift hostility and ceaseless, loud talking can win any argument. This woman is not a journalist in any honest sense of the word. She gives an extremely incomplete version of the truth, and has the gall to whine about the moderate/liberal media doing exactly that. It seems like she isn\'t even trying to hide the fact that, rather than show people what\'s going on(honest journalism), she's motivated by her own conceptions to make people see and hear what she wants them to.
Her over-the-top-aggressive attitude towards anyone who might disagree with her is preposterous. I can\'t imagine how any reasonable person can admire this quality, or take pride in seeing it as "the American way".
European 1: Bloody hell, what a bitch!
European 2: She\'s a conservative yank. On television.
European 1: Hmm... Do they think an aggressive attitude is somehow patriotic?
European 2: I guess. She\'s kinda hot, though...
European 1: Sure... 10 years ago. My ears hurt.
If there\'s one thing Ingraham learned from O\'Reilly\'s mistakes, It is that you must NEVER lose a debate. While blubbering Bill sometimes(rarely) waits until he begins losing an argument to start acting like an ass, Ingraham just abandons any concept of \"fair and balanced\" from the get-go. She utterly REFUSES to let her opponent speak, even if they\'re attempting to respond to her question, and then accuses them of not answering her question, despite how it was impossible because she was YELLING AT THEM(guests on her side, of course, have plenty of time to make thier point). She has NO qualms about belittling her guests, treating them like children, or just making crude, immature remarks for a cheap laugh.
I\'m reluctant to even call this process a debate. A true debate must include both deliberation AND consideration of BOTH sides. Ingraham engages in neither. To me, when people like this claim to offer an honest view of the world, it is an outright abuse of the 1st amendment. The most poignant reason is that I have no basis on which to think Laura Ingraham even believes what she says, but I\'m sure it will be said with a mouth full of venom.
It\'s not that I disagree with everything that she nor(dare I say it?) O\'Reilly has to say. In fact, I strongly agree with what they\'ve said on some issues. I just don\'t think THEY do. The point is this: I am not omniscient, and I rely on the media to give me an honest description of the world outside my immediate experience. When journalism is conducted poorly and dishonestly, I no longer have any reason to trust it\'s source. It is especially snide to mislead the public in an effort to win them over. It is nothing short of degenerate when done so under a banner like \"fair and balanced\".
