Woohay! Happy New Year! I do certainly hope 2004 is going to be a better year; although I know things could always have been worse, it would be nice to think things are going to improve
It has to be said that a cluster of mini-crisis has beset the last few days of 2003, from heart attacks to radiator leaks I feel absolutely drained but feeling kinda relieved and hopeful it's better from here on in.
Yesterday I decided that having emptied the office (due to the radiator leak) I would get a new desk and relocate some equipment. One trip to IKEA, one dropped brand new desk (now with fashionable dent), and one battered car later we had finally made it home.
Despite getting a new radiator on Monday it still needed to be fitted and my efforts had ended in failure, so a friend's dad came round to help - what a bloddy palaver! I swear radiators are the bane of my existence! First it wouldn't fit, pipes were banging around and being stretched and everyone's patience being exhausted rapidly; finally when we did get it on the bloddy thing wasn't straight - arrrrgghh!! I decided my stress level was inching me closer to a nervous breakdown so decided that would have to do (despite my perfectionism wanting otherwise). Five minutes later, looking forward to our big night out, oh boll*cs!! Its leaking and this time from the bottom of the value which means I can't turn it off.. ARRGHHH One panicked phone call and plea to our usual plumber resulted in a miracle - he agreed to come out as I had a spare value. I turned everything off and drained the system and despite no obvious fault being found the value was changed and the system refilled. I then spent the next two hours paranoid, running round all the radiators and the boiler trying to figure out why it was getting so hot; in the end I gave up, got two duvet's and hid underneath the covers to wait for a better day.
Still not content this morning, I spent another two hours messing around until finally I felt reasonably satisfied it was ok (i think), although this didn't stop the hourly paranoid checks on the boiler and new 'conked' radiator. Any fellow perfectionists will know that everytime you see something like a 'conked' picture (or in this case radiator) it drives you potty, so desperate to fix it - I decided the better option was to get a radiator cover and pretend it wasn't there
After taking a leap of faith and leaving the house, we spent the rest of the day visiting my gf's nan (who is now at home - amazing) and running some errands, unfortunately no radiator cover could be found, so that will have to wait until another day.
To end the day we've spent all evening cleaning the office from top to bottom, and taking all the Christmas decorations down so atlhough exhausted - some how I feel content that I have my office back, my new lovely (but dented) desk, and my G5 wurring away.
It's never boring round here that's for sure, but as my gf's nan keeps saying "Nowt to do but keep smiling ".
Take care all.

I'm going to a conference outside Verona at a place called Lago Di Gardia for a week or so and then hopefully spending another week meandering around Northern Italy, should be awesome! I've never been to Europe.

I've added a picture of my new office setup since the new radiator was fitted and new desk put in (if anyone is curious)
