I'll be up late, late, late tonight and on into the morning. The second Mars Exploration Rover "Opportunity" is finally leaving its nest and egressing onto the crater floor.
It's funny to watch NASA sell the Egress. It reminds me of another egress story. PT Barnum had a sign in his museum that read - in just as fancy and big a way as any other sign in the museum - "this way to the egress." People, eager to see the exotic egress, followed the sign and found themselves out on the street. Some versions of the story say they had to buy a whole new ticket to get back in. Not surprising, I guess, coming from a guy whose most memorable quote was, "there's a sucker born every minute."
Well, I'd better get my energy up. It could be a cold night tonight in Pasadena, and that rover's not going to drive itself. No, wait, yes it is. But somebody's got to bear witness.
Don't forget about the Textology show! It's coming soon. Check my pics for the invite! No excuses - I want all Arizonans to make it. I'll personally buy you a drink afterward if you say you saw this add.
