Shoto Ikki Kai...it is a form of Shotokan Karate that is not a sport-type Karate. It's main goal is self-defense, not the show. This is the main form I train in. There is also some Brazilian Jujitsu and Judo incorporated into my classes. I have been traing about a month now and starting to learn my first kata in order to earn my yellow belt. The issue is, I have no martial arts training except what I've had recently and, with my dance/cheerleading/gymnastic background...karate is awkward for me. I have a hard time remembering that my stances hve to be much wider and lower to the ground. That in most cases i pivot on my heel instead of my toes. I am so used to locking my knees as opposed to keeping them slightly bent to keep a better base of support. I feel like a fish out of water in my classes, but I still have a lot of fun in there. I swear that, instead of only a couple months, it will take me nearly a year to get these things pounded into my head and to finally earn my first belt. Time to go practice my stances again, meh!
