I have officially finished all of my large, life-changing tasks but one! Yay! As for the one left, I am ready to go spend some months in Uganda. But it's been a pain in the ass.
Challenge 1: Finding a furnished apartment in Kampala for as much or less than what I am paying now in CA. $800? For half the square-footage I have now? I think not. Maybe we'll just get one of the dirt cheap unfurnished ones and buy a mattress when we get there.
Challenge 2: Getting expedia to accept my debit to get the plane tickets. I have $4800 for you; please just take it! I don't want to get a credit card because I am bad with invisible money.
Challenge 3: Making the government to believe I am who I say I am. I did not know my last name was different on my birth certificate (thanks, Mom); I thought I was always who I am. I don't have time to hunt down public records from more that 5 years ago--or to get affidavits from people who knew me by both names, 'cause that was a looooonnnnnggg time ago.
But no matter what, I get to go to Africa! So I am happy.

I've never been to Costa Rica, but I've heard it's a beautiful country. We're gong in aid of The Muscular Dystrophy Campaign, our nephew has it so we try to do as much as we can for the charity. The government gives it little to no funding, so the only money they get for research comes from donations. I just hope we can raise enough to go, money's tight everywhere these days.
When are you going?
Trust me, it will be anything but a vacation. I'm not exactly an athelete here. I'm expecting it to be the hardest thing I have ever done in my life but if I don't go, I think I'll always regret it. How many people get to walk and sleep in the rainforest, knowing that they are helping someone have a better life? Just to be able to share an experience like that with my wife will be amazing.
I'm sorry to hear about your cousin. Do they not want to talk about it because it's too painful or because they won't accept it's true? There was a lot of denial when Jordan was first diagnosed, not from immediate family but more from older relatives. It just detracts from making plans for making their life easier. I hope that everything works out as well as it can for him, I'm sure that he is an amazing kid.
If you have to sing one song all day, why not Gummi Bears? It's a classic.
