I think I may scream. In the past two weeks: I was confronted by uncontrollable joint pain everywhere, spent 65 of 72 hours awake at the hosiptal sitting with my grandmother, held her hand as she died, became the go-between for family arguments about her death and final wishes, asked for time off to process and was told a passive no before other people got...

I'm sorry that you're having a bad time of it. I hope things improve soon.

Wow, so you were that person. The one that gets dumped on during the final days of someone's death. Sorry for your loss. Sorry for the stress. It takes a lot of strength and energy to be in that position. I hope things have started to look up since then. Good luck and be well.

Pirate is the craziest dude I have ever met. He talks some amazing shit, and doesn't even flinch when you call him on it. This is what I have documented so far:
⁃ Secret Service
⁃ Spy--like 007
⁃ CSI
⁃ UN
⁃ Marines
⁃ Doctor/Surgeon (a damn good one)
⁃ Vet
⁃ commercial pilot
⁃ tried to get the staff to advance him 300,000UGX...

Getting back into the swing of things must be difficult. I always tend to book a few extra days off work after a trip, to get back into it. There's nothing better than coming home knowing that you don't have to return to work yet.

I'm glad that you enjoyed it, despite the few problems you had.

Things here are ticking over, nothing really happening but nothing going wrong yet either. It's nice to have things a bit more settled for a while. No doubt it won't last long though. biggrin

That sounds like a good thing. wink

Haha, I agree about Tom Waits. He played a cool role in that.

I have officially finished all of my large, life-changing tasks but one! Yay! As for the one left, I am ready to go spend some months in Uganda. But it's been a pain in the ass.

Challenge 1: Finding a furnished apartment in Kampala for as much or less than what I am paying now in CA. $800? For half the square-footage I have now?...

That sounds like a good reason to go. I've always been one to go on vacation for the rest, beaches and fun etc. Now though I've started to look at these things differently, there are so many places that I'd like to go. Walking across the African plains with the Massai warriors, Trekking the Sahara Desert (my wife did this last year), walking the Great Wall of China. I didn't even realise until recently that these were viable holiday options. I'm looking for a bit of adventure. biggrin

I've never been to Costa Rica, but I've heard it's a beautiful country. We're gong in aid of The Muscular Dystrophy Campaign, our nephew has it so we try to do as much as we can for the charity. The government gives it little to no funding, so the only money they get for research comes from donations. I just hope we can raise enough to go, money's tight everywhere these days.

When are you going?

Thank you, I'm not sure I would call it noble, you just do whatever little thing you can. It's just that I see how brave he is and feel like I should do something to help. It's a small thing compared to his courage.

Trust me, it will be anything but a vacation. I'm not exactly an athelete here. biggrin I'm expecting it to be the hardest thing I have ever done in my life but if I don't go, I think I'll always regret it. How many people get to walk and sleep in the rainforest, knowing that they are helping someone have a better life? Just to be able to share an experience like that with my wife will be amazing.

I'm sorry to hear about your cousin. Do they not want to talk about it because it's too painful or because they won't accept it's true? There was a lot of denial when Jordan was first diagnosed, not from immediate family but more from older relatives. It just detracts from making plans for making their life easier. I hope that everything works out as well as it can for him, I'm sure that he is an amazing kid.

If you have to sing one song all day, why not Gummi Bears? It's a classic. biggrin

I will be married in five days. Holy shit.

Things I need to do this week:
write announcements and mail
get rental car
confirm hotel
manicure and pedicure (it was a gift; nomally not my style)
take my grandmother shopping (she is the only person who gets to come)
go to school, since I'm taking next week off
work extra at work to make up...

It is time for a new post. Here it goes.

Life is. . . complicated. It is moving in two-steps-forward, one-step-back fashion, but I try to remember that it's still making progress ("try" being the operative word). Wedding in May has turned into eloping in March. Antidepressants are my friend; therapy, not so much. Most hated coworker is having a journal on her misbehavior kept...

I feel like I am 15 again, what with this depression shit. I thought I had come so far in my life since then. Life is fun like that.

But, I have made the decision to actively combat my depression. I have admitted to it, made an appointment to go talk to my doctor about it, and mentioned my stress level to a few key...

Aww man, I hope things work out for you.
I got to Humboldt today by the way. Lots of life lessons learned over the course of half a day.

I am currently terrified for one young boy I know. I and my coworkers have invested so much time and energy into helping him recover from a violent childhood, and he has made so much progress. However, he is moving across the country next week, and tomorrow is his last day with us. I can only hope that the school system there will be openminded...
